Multiple Days of Severe Weather from Thunderstorms and Wildfires
Active spring pattern across the center of the nation with several rounds of severe thunderstorms in the forecast through the weekend. The regions under the greatest threats are the southern Plains into the Mississippi Valley. Meanwhile, dry and breezy conditions with dry fuels are aiding in wildfires across the western High Plains and the Southeast. Wind and some snow for northern Rockies.

Introduction
The U.S. National Weather Service provides anonymous FTP access to files containing collectives of text products generated by various Specialized Forecast Centers and Weather Service Forecast Offices located in the United States, Puerto Rico, and territorial islands in the Antillies and Pacific Ocean. The messages are in the same format as received from the sources, identified in either standard
WMO abbreviated header or AWIPS product identifier
message bulletin structure. The server subdirectory names and file name definitions can be found with descriptions in the document
OSO File Name Standards
. The naming conventions for all current subdirectories and files are described in the document titled:
File Server Naming Practices
. The data is available at the NWS Telecommunication Gateway on the server
ftp://tgftp.nws.noaa.gov
via anonymous FTP.
Information Available
There are
125 products
listed below that come from our NWS Forecast Offices or the NCEP Special Centers. These products in WMO/AWIPS bulletin message form are scheduled for delivery to the Gateway Switching System for distibution. The data will be available on the server, as soon as possible, after being received at the Gateway. Some of the listed products are event driven; therefore, some data subcategories do not update too often. Some products are seasonal.

Delivery Details
Data files are updated on the FTP server every five minutes or sooner with data from the Gateway. File names
in each data subcatagory directory
have the format
sn.
nnnn
; where
nnnn
is a four-digit number ranging from 0000 upto 0288 in most subdirectories (the upper limit will vary depending upon the data type). Files are written in sequence with the file sn.0000 following sn.0288 as this is the wrap point in the sequence depending on type. Files containing warnings are written more often. This scheme provides unique file names for at least the previous 24 hours of data received, as older files are over-written.
Data files are written only when data of that subcategory type is available.
