Notes
GNU Guix Days
Annual GNU Guix (un)conference.
This event is a
FOSDEM 2026 fringe event
Why?
GNU Guix is growing rapidly and has gone from a software packaging system to a full tool stack aimed at reproducible software deployment and development.
GNU Guix is a toolkit that allows developers to integrate reproducible software deployment into their applications—as opposed to leaving it up to the user. GNU Guix is based on the GNU Guile programming language which makes it a very versatile and hackable (in the good sense) environment.
When?
The
two days after FOSDEM
- Monday, February 2nd 2026
- Tuesday, February 3rd 2026
Coffee at 9:30AM, and starting at 10AM.
Where?
Institute of Cultural Affairs (ICAB)
Rue Amedee Lynen 8 1210 Brussels (
map
), Belgium.
The ICAB is unfortunately not well suited for wheelchairs as there are many steps between rooms though we help where we can.
Programme
We will have some talks in the morning and hacking and discussions the rest of the day. Two days of GNU Guix bliss.
The event targets an audience of Guix developers and users.
In pure “unconference” style, the program will be made by participants as we go, with hands-on sessions organized in sub-groups. Possible session topics:
GNU Guix status update & road map
Update on the 1.5.0 release process
GNU Guix online documentation
Project governance & facilitation: RFC process, teams, maintenance, release management
Guix Foundation update: crowdfunding campaign and upcoming actions
Unification of the Guile ecosystem communication and project management
Sustaining our infrastructure: planning to keep qa.guix, data.guix, ci.guix, etc. afloat
BLUE - A generic build-system crafted entirely in Guile. Where we are and where we go
Improving the developer experience of Guile and how BLUE did it
Supporting GNU Guix for long-term use: releases, distributions, and security
Developer Workflow Show & Tell: Let's share how we work with Guix and approach common use-cases.
Reflecting on the branching workflow: the good, the bad, and ways we could improve
One year after the user survey: what we addressed, what has yet to be done
Creative Writing: Can we write some quirky fiction to give users a practical learning journey into Guix?
Using Arei/Ares IDE with Guix-based projects
On building trust: From Authentication to Attestation
Java packaging

Secrets management in Guix

Tickets and Costs
The event costs between €3000 - €3500 Euros to run, so to cover the costs we are ticketing the event. The ticketing is organised through Open Collective on the
Guix Days 2026 Event
page. There are three levels of ticket:
General admission ticket
€45
The general admission ticket pays for attendance by a single individual.
Professional ticket
€120
This ticket makes a significant contribution to the the event's costs. Choose this ticket if you're attending in a professional capacity and can justify that attendance as a business, corporate or organisational expense.
(Almost Free) ticket
€10
This ticket is for anyone for whom the general ticket is too expensive. We want Guix Days to be accessible to all, just like GNU Guix is.
Each ticket entitles a single person to attend both days of the event. There's tea/coffee provided mid-morning and mid-afternoon and a full lunch. The ticket registration is overseen by the Guix Foundation, please contact Steve or Tanguy through the Open Collective page if there are any problems - we'll be happy to help!
Dinner
Diner in 2025 was at
De Ultieme Hallucinatie
If there are any suggestions or particular needs please ask.
We have chosen locations in the past sensitive to Vegan standards for example.
Sponsors
Please contact us if you would like to sponsor the event.
