The purpose of this study is to test the structural relationship between web pedagogic content kn... more The purpose of this study is to test the structural relationship between web pedagogic content knowledge and technology acceptance of preservice teachers. 235 preservice teachers from different programmes participated to study; a 4year Bachelor of Education and a Pedagogic Formation Certificate Program. Data were collected by a questionnaire which comprised of three sections, 1) demographic characteristics, 2) Teacher Technology Acceptance Measure (T-TAM) and 3) Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge-Web (TPCK-W) Survey. Technology acceptance of teachers comprised of 6 subscales, while Web pedagogic content knowledge comprised of 5 subscales. The structural model was tested by structural equation modeling. The results showed that model was in a good fit. TPCK-W was found to be significantly determined by T-TAM. T-TAM explained the 76% of the variance of TPCK-W.

Teachers’ technology adoption has been the focus of many researches since a long time and various... more Teachers’ technology adoption has been the focus of many researches since a long time and various factors affecting adoption process have been examined. Even though various factors affecting technology acceptance process have been revealed, the results are still limited and conflicting. This study aimed to investigate the effect of teachers’ personal innovativeness on their technology acceptance. The study group consisted of 237 primary and secondary school teachers. Descriptive statistics and structural equation modeling were used in data analysis. The results revealed that most of the teachers fall in “early majority” category of adoption and their innovativeness level was found to be low. Perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use of highly innovative teachers were found to be significantly higher than their low level counterparts. The results of structural equation model showed that personal innovativeness was influential in the technology acceptance of teachers. Perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use and subjective norms were direct determinants of behavioral intention, whereas personal innovativeness’ effect was indirect. In addition, personal innovativeness has been found have a positive effect on perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use and subjective norms.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the perceived information and communication technolog... more The purpose of this study is to investigate the perceived information and communication technologies (ICT) proficiency of Turkish mathematics teachers in teaching. This study was conducted using descriptive survey method. The study group consisted of 242 mathematics teachers working at middle (5th - 8th grade) and high schools (9th - 12th grade) in Turkey. The data were collected via “Personal Information Form” and “Perceived Information and Communication Technologies Proficiency Scale” developed by the researchers of this study. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, independent samples t-test, ANOVA and Pearson correlation test. As a result of the research, it was found that while Turkish mathematics teachers use ICT mostly for social media and communication purposes, they have insufficient knowledge and experience of ICT usage for teaching purposes. It was found that perceived proficiency of mathematics teachers’ in ICT usage did not significantly differ in terms of gender, while significant differences were found in terms of their years of professional experiences, teaching level and having training on computer-assisted instruction (CAI). It was also revealed that there was a significant positive correlation between perceptions of mathematics teachers’ proficiency in using ICT and their frequency of using Computer Assisted Instruction and smart board. It was suggested to organize in-service training activities for teachers on software and using ICT in teaching.

Gelistirilmesi hedeflenen olcek Mazman ve Altun (2012) tarafindan ortaya konulan “Karmasik Gorev Surecindeki Bilissel Stratejiler” modeli temelinde hazirlanmistir. Modeldeki stratejiler temel alinarak madde havuzu hazirlanmis, uzman gorusleri ve kucuk grupla pilot uygulama sonucunda olcek formu duzenlenmistir. Arastirmanin calisma grubunu ogrenim gormekte olan 232 lisans ogrencisi olusturmaktadir. Calismada yapi gecerliligi icin oncelikle acimlayici faktor analizi uygulanmis ve iki faktor (“bilgi toplama”, “cozum-kontrol”) altinda 10 maddeden olusan bir yapi elde edilmistir. Ardindan dogrulayici faktor analizi uygulanarak elde edilen yapinin iyi uyum gosterdigi ortaya konulmustur. Yakinsama ve ayirt edici gecerlilik icin ise aciklanan ortalama varyanslar incelenmistir. Olcegin guvenirlik calismalari icin ic tutarlik katsayisi ve yapi guvenirligi hesaplanmis, ayrica madde toplam korelasyonlari raporlanmistir. Analizler sonucunda olcegin gecerli ve guvenilir oldugu bulunmustur. Uygulanan olcege iliskin toplam puanlar incelendiginde kadinlarin erkeklerden anlamli derecede performans algilarinin yuksek oldugu bulunurken, sinif duzeyine gore algilanan performansin degismedigi ortaya konulmustur.

This paper provides a validation of the English version of the Social Networks Adoption Scale.Eng... more This paper provides a validation of the English version of the Social Networks Adoption Scale.English version of the Social Networks Adoption Scale consists of 19 items and 5 factors.The scale demonstrated good reliability and validity.The scale can provide an insight to educators about the adoption process from different cultures. The purpose of this study is to validate the English version of the Social Networks Adoption Scale developed by Usluel and Mazman (2009). The original scale consists of 21 items and 5 factors that include usefulness, ease of use, social effect, facilitating conditions and community identity. An online sample of 109 Facebook users completed an internet version of the translated the scale from the USA, Germany, Turkey, and Canada. For the scale's structural validity, first and second order confirmatory factor analysis was conducted. Cronbach's Alpha coefficients (0.90) and item total correlations were calculated to investigate reliability of the scale. Through validity study it was proven that English version of the scale was consisted of five factors. But as a result of the second order confirmatory factor analysis, correlation between social influence variable and adoption variable was found to be insignificant. Therefore, two items included in the social influence factor were extracted from scale. The results indicated that the English version of the Social Networks Adoption Scale consisting of 19 items and 5 factors provided valid and reliable measures of social networks adoption. The Social Networks Adoption Scale can provide an insight to educators about the adoption process of international students from different cultures who seek to use Facebook for educational purposes.

This study aimed to compare the Sakarya University which follows a new curriculum and a public un... more This study aimed to compare the Sakarya University which follows a new curriculum and a public university which follows the current curriculum in terms of problems experienced by the students of Computer Education and Instructional Technologies (CEIT) and their professional future concerns alongside to take students' opinions on the CEIT program. Study group was consisted of 198 CEIT students adopted a new curriculum in Sakarya University and 116 CEIT students adopted a current curriculum in a public university excluding first grades. Cross-sectional survey model was used in the study. Beside quantitative data, students' opinion were collected with open ended questions qualitatively in the questionnaire. According to quantitative data results, the problems students encounter and the future concerns of CEIT students in current curriculum was found to be higher than the CEIT students' in new curriculum. In addition, qualitative findings have been collected under three headings as student ideas which can be potential answers to sub-problems, potential problems in curriculum and in its application, professional concern about future and the shift in educational program. Based on these findings, equilibrium distribution of field courses and other courses, increasing the elective courses, sustainability of the up to dateness of the curriculum by the in keeping with technological development, increasing the quality of the instructors and the teaching methods can be suggested.

The purpose of this study is to investigate and conceptualize the ranks of importance of social c... more The purpose of this study is to investigate and conceptualize the ranks of importance of social cognitive variables on university students' computer programming performances. Spatial ability, working memory, self-efficacy, gender, prior knowledge and the universities students attend were taken as variables to be analyzed. The study has been conducted with 129 2nd year undergraduate students, who have taken Programming Languages-I course from three universities. Spatial ability has been measured through mental rotation and spatial visualization tests; working memory has been attained through the measurement of two sub-dimensions; visual-spatial and verbal working memory. Data were analyzed through Boosted Regression Trees and Random Forests, which are non-parametric predictive data mining techniques. The analyses yielded a user model that would predict students' computer programming performance based on various social and cognitive variables. The results yielded that the variables, which contributed to the programming performance prediction significantly, were spatial orientation skill, spatial memory, mental orientation, self-efficacy perception and verbal memory with equal importance weights. Yet, the effect of prior knowledge and gender on programming performance has not been found to be significant. The importance of ranks of variables and the proportion of predicted variance of programming performance could be used as guidelines when designing instruction and developing curriculum.

Bu doğrultuda "Yeninin Yayılımı Kuramı", Sebepli Davranış Kuramı", "Planlı Davranış Kuramı", Teknoloji Kabul Modeli" ve "Birleştirilmiş Teknoloji Kabul ve Kullanım Modeli" olmak üzere beş kuram ve model temel alınarak, ISI Web of Knowledge'de son beş yıl içinde eğitim alanında yapılmış olan yayılım, kabul ve benimseme çalışmaları taranmıştır. Tarama sonucunda elde edilen 35 çalışma içerik analizi yöntemi ile incelenmiştir. Analizi beş ölçüte göre yapılmıştır. Bunlar; 1) çalışmada temele alınan kuram ya da model, 2) ele alınan yenilik; 3) çalışma grubu 4) veri analiz yöntemleri ve 5) yayılım, kabul ve benimseme sürecinde ortaya konulan öğelerdir. İçerik analizi sonucunda Teknoloji Kabul Modeli'nin çalışmalarda en çok temel alınan model olduğu belirlenmiştir. Ele alınan yenilikler arasında bilgi ve iletişim teknolojilerinin en fazla incelenen yenilik olduğu belirlenmiştir. Çalışma gruplarının genellikle öğretmen adayları olmak üzere öğrencilerden oluştuğu ve verilerin yapısal eşitlik modellemesi ile analiz edildiği ortaya çıkmıştır. Süreçte yer alan öğeler açısından yarar algısı, kullanım kolaylığı, sosyal etki ve kolaylaştırıcı faktörlerin en fazla vurgulanan öğeler olduğu bulunmuştur. Ayrıca, yarar algısının yeniliği kullanım, yeniye karşı tutum ya da kullanım niyeti üzerinde en çok etkiye sahip olan öğe olduğu belirlenmiştir.

Study group was five senior students from Computer Education and Instructional Technologies Department at a state university. A computer based complex task including a logical reasoning process was developed and utilized. Data was collected with cued retrospective think aloud containing a gaze video replay and eye tracking. All the retrospective protocols were transcribed for analysis then a coding schema was developed iteratively from segments. By drawing area of interest fields(AOI) of task panel, eye movement data in specific processes and fields were analyzed by using fixation duration and fixation count metrics.

Bu çalışma ile Ramalingam ve Wiedenbeck (1998) tarafından geliştirilen "Programlamaya İlişkin Öz ... more Bu çalışma ile Ramalingam ve Wiedenbeck (1998) tarafından geliştirilen "Programlamaya İlişkin Öz Yeterlilik Algısı Ölçeği"nin, Türkçe'ye uyarlama çalışmasının yapılması ve bireylerin programlamaya ilişkin genel öz yeterlilik algılarının çeşitli değişkenler açısından incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu farklı bölümlerde öğrenim görmekte olan ve daha önce programlama dersi almış 152 üniversite öğrencisi oluşturmuştur. Orijinalinde 7'li likert tipi 32 madde ve 4 faktörden (bağımsızlık ve kararlılık, basit programlama görevlerini gerçekleştirme, karmaşık programlama görevlerini gerçekleştirme, öz düzenleme) oluşan ölçeğin, Türkçe formunun uygulanan örneklemde yapılan geçerlilik ve güvenirlik çalışmaları sonucu 9 madde ve 2 faktörden (basit programlama görevlerini gerçekleştirme ve karmaşık programlama görevlerini gerçekleştirme) oluştuğu bulunmuştur. Ölçeğin tümü için Cronbach Alpha katsayısı .928, konjenerik ölçümler için daha uygun sonuçlar verdiği ifade edilen McDonald'ın (omega) katsayısı ise .956 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Açımlayıcı faktör analizi sonunda dokuz madde toplam varyansın %80,814'ünü açıklamış ve bu yapıya ilişkin model doğrulayıcı faktör analizi ile de doğrulanarak programlamaya ilişkin öz yeterlilik algısını ölçen geçerli ve güvenilir bir araç elde edilmiştir.

The purpose of this exploratory study was to probe the cognitive processes of undergraduate stude... more The purpose of this exploratory study was to probe the cognitive processes of undergraduate students at varying mental rotation ability (MRA) levels during mental rotation tasks. The study group consisted of 14 undergraduate students from the Psychological Counseling and Guidance Department and Computer Education and Instructional Technologies Department at Hacettepe University. Firstly, participants’ mental rotation ability levels were determined. Secondly, participants were grouped according to their mental rotation test scores. Then, they were given two digital tangram problems with different difficulty levels. During their interaction with Tangram problems, their eye movements were recorded. The Mann Whitney U test was run to compare differences in eye movements across different mental rotation ability level groups. As a result, it was found that while there were significant differences in eye movement metrics between different mental rotation ability levels for the easy tangram problem, there were no significant differences observed in eye movement metrics for the difficult tangram problem. In addition, examining completion time showed that while easy tangram problem completion time was significantly shorter for people with a higher score on the mental rotation test, there were no significant differences between completion times of different level mental rotation ability groups when solving the difficult tangram problem. Since the spatial ability is an important predictor of task performance and completion time, it is suggested that adaptive learning environments should be designed to compensate for low MRA level learners.
