The Local History Services department maintains a listing of local historical societies, genealogical societies and official county historians.
Are you trying to find an answer to a specific local history question? Contact a
local history resource
or the
William H. Smith Memorial Library
at the Indiana Historical Society.
For questions about these listings or to submit corrections, please contact us at (317)234-0170 or
localhistoryservices@indianahistory.org
What is a county historian?
Each county has one volunteer county historian who promotes local history in their counties and serves as the primary county history contact. IHS and the Indiana Historical Bureau established the County Historian Program in 1981 in an effort to improve the historical communication network in the state.

Speakers List
The Speakers List is provided as a service to groups and organizations throughout Indiana seeking history programs and presentations.
Speakers should be contacted directly to make speaking arrangements.
The Indiana Historical Society lists the speakers as a service to them and to you. None of the speakers listed herein, except for IHS staff, represent the Indiana Historical Society. If you have questions about this list or wish to submit corrections or additions, please email
localhistoryservices@indianahistory.org
You can view/download the Speakers List in two ways:
Sortable List of Speakers – Excel Spreadsheet
The list can be sorted by subject, speaker name, title, and more. To sort, click the down arrow in the desired section in the header row.
PDF List of Speakers List
The list is arranged in alphabetical order by the speaker’s last name.
