Honoka`a Hospital is a 77-bed Critical Access Hospital located in the rural town of Honokaa‛a.
Our Services
We offer emergency, acute and long term care, including laboratory and x-ray services.
Acute Care
Honoka`a Hospital has 11 swing beds dedicated to patients with acute needs or skilled care needs.
Long Term Care
Our 66-bed long term care unit provides both ICF and SNF residents care

Welcome to Honoka`a Hospital
Honoka`a Hospital, has served the healthcare needs of the communities of Hamakua, North Hawaii and South Kohala since 1951. In November 1995, the current facility was opened above the old hospital, to provide long term care services. In 2010, the Maile Wing was added to the facility to bring the total number of beds up to 77.
Today, we offer a 24/7 emergency department, acute care, rehabilitation care, long-term care, x-ray and laboratory services.
Honoka`a Hospital is a part of the East Hawaii Region of Hawaii Health Systems Corporation, a public corporation established in 1996 by the State of Hawaii to fulfill the promise to provide quality, hometown healthcare.
Disaster Preparedness at Its Best!
On September 18, Honoka`a Hospital sprung into disaster preparedness mode when students at Honokaa Elementary and Honokaa High & Intermediate were sent home due to a strong chemical odor. About 40 students and 10 adults from the school who reported feeling symptoms of nausea, dizziness, headache and respiratory problems were transported to HHSN and North Hawaii Community Hospital to be assessed and treated. Members of the Hospital Emergency Response Team (HERT), based at Hilo Benioff Medical Center, rushed out to Honoka’a to assist in setting up the decontamination tent and receiving patients. HHSN opened up an Incident Command Center and sprung into action with staff members from all departments taking on various roles to ensure an organized process.
