Q: How do I request materials from the Online Archive of California (OAC)?
A:
Please watch our tutorial on YouTube:
or complete Steps 1-5 as described below:
STEP 1: Identify the materials you wish to request.
Review the collection's
finding aid
on the
OAC
to determine which boxes contain the materials you are requesting. The system for submitting requests for archival materials directly from the OAC is in development, and all requests must be made through the collection’s corresponding catalog record in
UC Library Search
STEP 2: Locate the collection's catalog record in the
UC Library Search
Locate and select the UCLA Catalog Record ID link listed under
Related Resources
to navigate to that collection’s catalog record in
UC Library Search
For example, selecting this link in the finding aid (pictured below) for the
Golden State Mutual Life Insurance Company Records
opens a
new browser window in UC Library Search for that collection
What to do If the link doesn't take you to the collection's catalog record:
Search for the collection by entering the collection title into the search field.
For example, if you are requesting materials from the
Craft and Folk Art Museum Records
, search
UC Library Search
by entering the collection title “Craft and Folk Art Museum Records" into the Search field.
If you are unable to locate the collection’s catalog record in UC Library Search:
Select the
Advanced Search
option to limit your search by location
Library Special Collections (YRL)
STEP 3: Filter location items and select your box.
Select the filter icon at the top of the LOCATION ITEMS screen.
Select the dropdown menu under “volume” to scroll through the boxes in numerical order and select your box or item number.
STEP 4: Submit a Special Collections Request for your box.
The request form should auto-populate with your request information. If this doesn’t happen automatically, repeat step 4 after signing in to your
LSC User Account
STEP 5: Select a retrieval date and submit your request.
Use the calendar icon to select a retrieval date (the day you wish to access the materials in the reading room).  Select “Submit Request” to finalize your request.
You must complete Steps 1-5 for each additional box request.
All requests must be submitted at least 2 business days prior to your visit to ensure item retrieval. Scheduling delivery of paged boxes is
not an appointmen
t. Please see our related FAQs about
Planning A Visit to LSC

off-site item retrieval is limited to 5 boxes/items per researcher per day
