To share a link to a database or article, you need to be sure the URL is a permanent link, and in most cases, a proxied link.
The URL from the address bar in your web browser is often tied to your visit. Sharing that URL with others or using the link later will lead to an error message.
You need to be sure you’re using a permalink. We have instructions below for finding permalinks in most of our databases.
Proxied Link
Links to subscription content may work on-campus but ask for a login off-campus. To route off-campus users to GVSU’s central login system, your link needs to contain
ezproxy.gvsu.edu
. This will ensure the link works both on- and off-campus. Please visit the
Link Fixer tool
to test and adjust your link if needed.
Find It! Links
If you need to link to single search result after using the "Find It!" search box, click the "Tools" button indicated by three dots next to the entry. From the drop-down menu, select "Share". This will open a Share menu. Select "Create link" for a stable link.
To link to search results, select the desired results using the checkboxes. Click the "Share" icon next to the Results check box to open a menu to generate links to search results.
DOI Links
Often electronic resources will list a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) link for sharing. A DOI is a permanent link that always redirects to the article. It’s fine to use DOI links for sharing, but it’s best to test access first. You may find an article on one database whose DOI link opens in a different database.
