Human Subjects Research Determination Tool
The Pitt HRP developed a decision tool to help determine if a project involves human subjects.
The IRB must approve all activities that meet the regulatory criteria for human subjects research as defined by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) or the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The purpose of this tool is to help you determine whether or not your project constitutes research involving human subjects, according to the DHHS regulatory definitions of these terms, or may otherwise require submission in PittPRO. If your project does not require IRB submission according to your responses, you will receive a determination email verifying submission is not required.
