Note that this tag is useful when an object has names specified in more than one language:
- If
name=*is in English then it specifies which language is used in the main name tag - If
name=*is in a different language then it specifies the name in English
name:en=* is used to specify the name that English speakers use, and is not about tagging names that are etymologically English[1].
For example, name:en=Wānaka means that Wānaka is the name that English-speakers use, not that it is the name of “English origin”[1], indeed it is of Māori origin.
