Lancers Dominate Monument Spring Road Tournament, Capture Team and Top Honors
GERING, Neb.
– The Eastern Wyoming College golf teams continued to control the leaderboard, winning both the men’s and women’s team titles and claiming medalist honors at the Monument Spring Road Tournament held April 16-17 at Monument Shadows Golf Course.
The tournament served as the final Region IX event of the season after weather canceled a previously scheduled stop.
“Central Wyoming decided to cancel their tournament because of weather-related issues, so Coach Harbart and myself worked with the team at Monument Shadows Golf Course in Gering to host our final region tournament,” EWC coach Zach Smith said. “It was going to be a lot of final career tournaments for a lot of sophomores, so I’m glad that we were able to play one final region tournament this year for those sophomores.”
The Lancers capitalized, turning in another strong showing across both scorecards.
On the men’s side, Ben Brown earned top honors after firing a 3-under-par performance. Teammate Jamie Lambert scored a 2-over-par to finish in a tie for runner-up, while Nash Coleman posted a 4-over-par to take fourth. Jace Nielsen signed for a 7-over-par to place sixth, Josh Lane finished in a tie for eighth place at 11-over-par, and Troy Young came in a tie for 11
th
place at 12-over-par.
Additional Lancers in the field included Josh White, Freddie Dancox, Kaden Linford, Aiden Walker, Landen Gilmore and Daniel Meyer.
As a team, EWC posted an 18-over-par to win the tournament, while the Lancers’ B team finished third at 35-over-par.
The Lady Lancers were equally dominant, sweeping the top seven spots on the leaderboard.
Jessica Applegarth led the way, earning medalist honors with a 16-over-par. Elliann Irick finished runner-up at 18-over-par, followed by Sara Maciej in third at 21-over-par. Georgie Paterakis carded a 22-over-par for fourth, while Ashlyn Matheson, Madison Fujimoto and Bailey Watson each finished in a tie for fifth place at 23-over-par.
The Lady Lancers secured the women’s team title with a combined 80-over-par.
“Both the men’s and women’s teams came away with wins again this week as a team and with the individual titles,” Smith said.
The event also finalized Region IX honors, with the Lancers placing multiple golfers on the all-region teams.
“The girls’ team swept all five top spots in the region, with Sara Maciej winning the region, followed by Maddie Fujimoto, Jessica Applegarth, Ashlyn Matheson and Elliann Irick,” Smith said. “The guys took five of the top eight spots for first- and second-team honors. Ben Brown won the overall region, followed by Jamie Lambert, and then Freddie Dancox in fifth, Josh White in sixth and Troy Young in seventh on the second team all-region.”
With the regular season complete, the Lancers now turn their attention to postseason play.
“We now move our focus to the men’s and women’s district championships,” Smith said. “The guys will play April 23-24 in Loveland, Colorado, and the girls will play April 27-28 in Goodland, Kansas.”
