Communication styling and storytelling are just as important as data analysis itself. You can conduct the most brilliant analysis in the world, but it's worthless if you can't communicate your findings effectively to stakeholders. Tailoring your message to different audiences and using data visualization to simplify complex concepts is absolutely necessary. The course showed me that you can be a data-cruncher and a data storyteller all in one.
Cristeen Rodriguez-Cox
The content shared was complete and thought provoking.
Donna B.
Great viewpoints on taking control of your time and your day. Feel like I will definitely be using sections of what was taught.
Justin T.

GeriAnn was excellent! The class was very engaging and maintained my attention throughout. The content was also very good, and I learned techniques in my writing that will last a lifetime - including a refresher in grammar that was super helpful. Some of the biggest takeaways were "bottom line up front', 40% time invested in pre-writing, short and concise sentences, and other parts of the plain language act as well as the 7 essential editing traits. Overall, the class was such an amazing experience! Such a great way to spend two days in the middle of the week.

Martha DeLaPaz
Overall, my experience in the Executive Leadership Program has been both challenging and rewarding. It pushed me to step outside my comfort zone, think more strategically, and reflect on my leadership style in real-world situations. Through team projects, interviews with senior leaders, and self-assessments, I gained a deeper understanding of how effective leadership shows up in practice, not just theory. The program strengthened my confidence, communication skills, and commitment to continuous growth as a leader.
Jasmine Andrews
ELP was one of the best training/development experiences I've had in my government career. My mentor told me to use it like a golden ticket and seek out experiences that I'm interested in. I met some incredible people within my team and was able to experience things I never thought I'd be able to do. I interviewed high-level executives, shadowed interesting people, and went on an eight-week long developmental assignment to put my leadership skills to practice. I would highly recommend this course.
Kelsey Wolfinger
I had a great experience with the program. Though there were difficult times throughout these last 9 months, its great to feel accomplished after completing the program.

The Executive Leadership Program provided an invaluable journey in leadership development that strengthened my ability to lead people effectively. Through carefully curated competency-based activities that built upon each other, I was able to expand my knowledge, gain practical experience, develop a network of contemporaries, and learn to increase my impact as a mid-level leader; the focus of "leading people” proved applicable to many daily responsibilities, and the totality of work created a comprehensive framework for understanding and practicing effective leadership. I’m particularly grateful for Heather Murphy Capps’s exceptional coordination throughout the program, and I highly recommend ELP to any GS-11 to GS-13 employee seeking to enhance their leadership capabilities and prepare for greater responsibilities within their respective department.
Jaysen Lippoldt

I learned a lot during ELP. It was great to work in a team and to have so many activities to complete during the program. The experience of arranging and scheduling these activities taught me to take ownership over my leadership journey. Most of the instructors were great and Heather, the program coordinator, was responsive and offered helpful advice.
V. R.
One of my favorite experiences in the Executive Leadership Program was interviewing the mayor of my city, which pushed me far outside of my comfort zone and reminded me that growth begins with courage. I also had the opportunity to interview four incredible women in leadership whose personal stories inspired me to be not only be a stronger leader, but also more confident in who I am and how I lead. These experiences will stay with me long after the program ends. Thank you for an amazing opportunity!
Marketia Davis
ELP reinforced that leadership is a continuous learning process. It encouraged me to seek feedback, reflect on my experiences, and remain open to growth. I no longer see leadership as a position to attain, but as a mindset to practice daily, a mindset rooted in accountability, empathy, and purposeful action.

The instructor was great and moved at a great pace while allowing everyone to share and participate. The vibe was welcoming and professional. I enjoyed the thought-provoking exercises. Take a chance and take the course. The New Leadership Program is not only an investment in you as an employee, but it is an investment in you as a person, for you grow in unimaginable ways. Of course, you get out of it what you are willing to put into it, so do not shortchange yourself. Set aside this time in your life to allow yourself the space to grow as a leader. Get the leadership tools, knowledge, and strategies needed to make you more effective and competitive. Everyone's experience is unique to them, but opportunity comes to everyone who works the program. I am proof that the program works, for it not only changed the course of my career by opening doors that I could not have opened otherwise, but it also changed the course of my life for I now have a network of professional contacts and friends that makes going to the next level more achievable.
Monica Middlebrooks

I particularly appreciate you for answering my many questions and helping me to stay on track. Likewise, you were able to troubleshoot any tech or assignment issues quickly.
Sara F.
When I joined this class, I was worried about the amount of work, as my job is a lot of work in itself. I also am not a fan of group projects, BUT my group is what got me through this program. Without them, I would not have grown as much as I did. And the activities and the rotations really helped me see that I can grow, and there is more to work than Contracting. I thoroughly enjoyed my DA with the FMS team!
Darian Holley

I was dreading a week-long virtual class. Instead, the combination of "large" (25-person) lecture with smaller group break-out sessions worked well. The class was sufficiently interactive to keep us engaged throughout the week. Daniel Kowalski was excellent. He is knowledgeable about the topics covered and served well as both a lecturer and a discussion leader. He also came across as pleasant and easy to deal with. He did well to bring his own experiences from the HR world into the discussion.
Robert W.
The instructor's real-world examples and personal knowledge and applications of the rules and statutes make for an effective training style. The breakout sessions were extremely helpful in effectively consuming and processing the materials. It was a great course, and I look forward to taking it again in the future as a refresher. Perhaps a shorter but more frequent refresher would be effective for continuing to develop leadership skills and the subject-matter knowledge base.
Stanley P.
The instructor, Dan, was great. He explained everything in detail and used great examples. Additionally, he provided great input for every exercise.
Glorynes TA.

A great experience. I can already feel my government writing skills improving. I enjoyed the balance of material to exercises, along with involving the students during the exercises. I was concerned I would have trouble focusing during an online class, but this balance of lecture, exercise, and engagement, along with strictly sticking to the breaks, allowed me to stay as engaged, if not more so, than an in-person class.
Brian D.

Deborah and her class on leadership highlight the importance of understanding not only the responsibilities that come with leading but also the qualities that inspire others to follow. As a supervisor, Deborah brings real-world experience into the discussions, allowing her class to explore leadership from both a theoretical and practical perspective. She emphasizes that true leadership goes beyond titles and authority—it is about building trust, communicating effectively, and guiding a team toward shared goals. In her sessions, she encourages students to reflect on their own leadership styles, strengths, and areas for growth, fostering an environment where collaboration and self-awareness are key. The class often engages in case studies, group exercises, and scenario-based discussions to practice decision-making, conflict resolution, and political savvy in the workplace. Deborah also challenges her students to think critically about ethical leadership, reminding them that credibility and integrity are the foundation of influence. By combining structured lessons with interactive dialogue, she ensures her students leave with a deeper understanding of how leadership is not just about managing people, but about inspiring them, empowering them, and setting a vision that others believe in and want to achieve.
