The article analyzes the experience of the research group from Yekaterinburg on the organization ... more The article analyzes the experience of the research group from Yekaterinburg on the organization of an exhi-bition on the constructivist villages of Sverdlovsk. The authors consider the possibilities and results of working with the architectural heritage as a phenomenon of public history and of modern man’s interaction with the historical ex-perience of the “Soviet”. The authors prove that the architectural exhibition can become a basis for reconfiguring (in Paul Ricoeur’s vision) historical experience through its new contextualization. The authors substantiate the possibil-ity of working with the avant-garde architectural heritage as a phenomenon of public history and reveal the specifics of the presence of the architectural avant-garde in the cultural field of Sverdlovsk / Yekaterinburg. The article analyzes the concept of the symbolic capital of a territory and substantiates the imp... more The article analyzes the concept of the symbolic capital of a territory and substantiates the importance of its identification and its use for the promotion of three provincial cities in Russia: Shadrinsk, Chebarkul, and Chelyabinsk. Based on the approach of symbolic interactionism and the use of semiotic analysis, the authors of the article propose to group the resources of the symbolic capital of a territory in three ways. They use signs or symbols, images of the territory, and archetypes. The capital of a provincial city can be perceived symbolically both by external (investors and tourists) and internal (local residents) audiences. They serve as a means of shaping the image and reputation of the place. Both P. Bourdieu's concept of symbolic capital and V. The authors describe the transformation of the perception practices of the avantgarde architectur... more The authors describe the transformation of the perception practices of the avantgarde architectural object in the urban space. In the article, the avant-garde object is represented not only as an architectural or artistic phenomenon, but also as a social phenomenon forming a city identity. The purpose of the article is to identify and describe the specific character of the transformation of the avant-garde architecture object symbolic content understood as an element of urban identity. The object of analysis in the article is the Scientific Research Institute (SRI) of Maternity and Infancy, which is viewed both as a monument of the constructivist architecture and as an institution whose functioning cannot be adequately understood without the regard to a unique architectural project designed specifically for it. The historical analysis shows that the SRI of Maternity and Infancy is transformed from an avant-garde object associated with the industrialization of public life, into a significant monument of the past, which is due to the internal logic of the development of a modern city. In addition to the analysis of scientific literature and secondary sources, the methodology of the study includes data collection through interviews with the staff of the Scientific Research Institute of Maternity and Infancy.

The authors conducted a study of the architectural avant-garde of Sverdlovsk, Russia which showed that the weak perception of the historical and cultural importance of constructivist buildings and complexes is associated not only with the lack of the people awareness, but also with the underestimation of their aesthetic value. Meanwhile, the study of space-planning solutions for specific architectural projects reveals really conceptual aesthetics of the buildings. In addition, the study of the social history of constructivist architectural complexes, conducted by the authors, helped us to identify and articulate their cultural and historical significance and to highlight in a creative way the visual perception of these architectural reference markers in the space of the city. Yekaterinburg is one of the Russia's largest cities. It entered into the international competitio... more Yekaterinburg is one of the Russia's largest cities. It entered into the international competition in promoting cities a few years ago. The strategy of global events is one of the ways to positioning the Yekaterinburg: Yekaterinburg hosted the SCO summit in 2009, the city will hold FIFA World Cup in 2018, today the city claims to host the EXPO 2020. However, not all city events are focused on the translation of the unique Yekaterinburg identity. One of these events is the Ural Industrial Biennial, held in Yekaterinburg twice-in 2010 and 2012. While the industrial theme of Biennial meets certain traditions in the history of the city, the communicative potential of the event is still not used completely. Article aims to determine the location of the Ural Biennial in the conceptualization and translation of historical identity of Yekaterinburg.

Nowadays cinema is not just a synthetic art, it is deeply integrated into the basic structure of modern culture, and forms means capable of becoming an effective source of educational innovations. The article proposes the concept of film-study as a reference for the complex of methodical use of cinema in education. Analysis of different cases of inclusion of cinema in practical lessons allowed the authors to substantiate the connection of film-study method with the formation of students’ creative cross-cultural skills. As stated in the article, techniques of film-study method used by the authors contribute to the development of students’ cross-cultural competence relevant in a multicultural context of their professional and daily activities.
