Summary/Overarching Statistics (Up to Date)
One in five men (21.8%) in 2024/25 said they have been a victim of domestic abuse in their lifetime (5.2 million). The figures for women were 29.6% and 7.3% million respectively. Men consist of 42% of all victims. (

One in fifteen men (6.5%) said they were a victim of domestic abuse in 2024/25 (1.5 million men). The figures for women were 9.1% and 2.2 million respectively. Men consist of 41% of all victims. (

One in five to six men (18.2%) have been a victim of partner abuse in their lifetime (4.3 million). The figures for women are 26.6% and 6.5 million. Men consist of 40% of all victims. (

One in fourteen men (7.4%) have been a victim of family abuse in their lifetime (1.8 million). The figures for women are 9.9% and 2.4 million. They consist of 42% of all victims.(

One in forty two (2.4%) said they were a victim of family abuse in 2024/25 (578,000). The figures for women are 2.9% and 719,000 respectively. They consist of 44% of all victims. .(

Of all male victims of domestic abuse, approximately two in three is from a current or former partner and the other third from a family member. There is some crossover where they could be victims of both in any one year. (

Of domestic abuse crimes recorded by the police where sex was identified, 33% were committed against men.
The figures show 24.4% men and 49.3% women but the remainder is unidentified.

Only 4.4% of victims of domestic abuse being supporting by local domestic services are men according to SafeLives data. This highlights how few men are being supported for local domestic abuse services. (

67% of the men who call the ManKind Initiative helpline have never spoken to anyone before about the abuse they are suffering and 64% would not have called if the helpline was not anonymous (ManKind Initiative). 99% of the men who call are undergoing psychological and emotional abuse, 89% coercive controlling behaviour, 62% physical abuse and 32% economic abuse. (

Currently in the UK (September 2025) there are 59 organisations with 429 refuge or safe accommodation spaces available for men (130 are dedicated for men and 299 for men or women). These figures are hugely skewed by one organisation with 46 dedicated spaces. If these were removed, the spaces would be 58 organisations with 383 places (84 dedicated). The median number per organisation is 6 spaces. (ManKind Initiative).
According to the
Government’s Safe Accommodation
report (2024/25), 2,140 men (3% of total) were supported in safe accommodation.
21% of male victims (2022/23) fail to tell anyone they are a victim of partner abuse – which is big improvement as previously it was 49% in 2017/18. The figures for female victims are 18.2% (2022/23) and 19%. (

5% of male victims (2.8% women) have considered taking their life due to partner abuse in 2022/23. The charity has seen an increase in calls regarding suicide ideation over the pandemic period and beyond. (

The ManKind Initiative estimates that between 3-5 men every week die by suicide due to domestic abuse.
In 2023/24, 8 men died at the hands of their partner or ex-partner compared to 58 women. (
