CIP Name: Medical Laboratory Technology
Definition:
A program that prepares individuals, under the supervision of clinical laboratory scientists/medical technologists, to perform routine medical laboratory procedures and tests and to apply preset strategies to record and analyze data. Includes instruction in general laboratory procedures and skills; laboratory mathematics; medical computer applications; interpersonal and communications skills; and the basic principles of hematology, medical microbiology, immunohematology, immunology, clinical chemistry, and urinalysis.
APPROVAL STATUS
The Medical Laboratory Technology Alignment was approved by the Kansas Board of Regents on January 15, 2015.  Colleges are granted one year from the approval date to implement the alignment.
State Business and Industry Committee Recommendation
Nationally recognized credentials was used in lieu of a Business and Industry Committee.  All programs must be accredited nu the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS).  All students are eligible and expected to sit for a nationally recognized certification examination: American Society for Clinical Pathologists Board of Certification – MLT or American Medical Technologists – MLT.
