Synopsis
Mount Putuo is one of the four sacred mountains of Chinese Buddhism, located in the Zhoushan Archipelago of Zhejiang Province. As the bodhimanda of Guanyin (Avalokitesvara), it attracts millions of pilgrims and tourists each year. The "Buddhist Kingdom by the Sea" and the "South Sea Guanyin" are its iconic landmarks.
Overview
Mount Putuo is located in Putuo District, Zhoushan City, Zhejiang Province. It is one of the Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains in China and the bodhimanda of Guanyin (Avalokitesvara) Bodhisattva. Surrounded by the sea on all sides and boasting beautiful scenery, it is known as the "Buddhist Kingdom on the Sea and Sky."
Mount Putuo, along with Mount Wutai in Shanxi, Mount Emei in Sichuan, and Mount Jiuhua in Anhui, are collectively known as the Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains of China.
