Globe View
Globe View
allows you to display the map as a spherical Earth instead of a flat projection. This mode changes the geometry of the map surface and adapts map interaction to spherical navigation, providing a more realistic perspective for long-distance browsing.
Configure map → Topography → Globe View
3D Buildings
3D Buildings
feature displays buildings as volumetric 3D models instead of flat shapes.
Configure map → Topography → 3D Buildings
Speedometer Widget
Speedometer widget
now shows visual speeding alerts with color-coded tolerance and limit-exceed states, including animated transitions when crossing speed thresholds.
Map Buttons: Visibility & Appearance
Map buttons can now be fully customized. You can control the
visibility
and adjust the
appearance
of both default and custom (Quick Action) buttons.
Adjustable Position Icon Size
You can now resize the
My Location position icon
independently from the app’s text size. Separate size settings are available for Resting and Navigation modes, allowing better visibility while driving. The icon size can be adjusted from 50% to 300%, with 100% set as default.
New Trip Recording Widgets
The
Trip Recording plugin
has been expanded with smarter widgets that provide deeper insights into your activity, especially for cycling and hiking in hilly terrain.
Multiple Display Modes
Many Trip Recording widgets now support
Multiple Display Modes
. This allows you to toggle a single widget to show metrics for your overall trip or specifically for your
Last Uphill
or
Last Downhill
section. You can switch modes by tapping the widget or via the widget settings.
Max Speed Widget
The
Max Speed widget
displays your peak speed. In its new modes, you can see exactly how fast you went during your most recent descent or climb, helping you analyze performance on specific segments of your track.
Average Slope Widget
The
Average Slope widget
provides real-time data on the steepness of your current or last completed section. It’s an essential tool for gauging the difficulty of a climb or the intensity of a descent.
Moving Time Widget
The
Moving Time widget
now tracks your active duration with higher granularity. By switching modes, you can see exactly how much time you spent on your last uphill grind versus your last downhill cruise.
Updates copying Waypoints
Added
option
to copy waypoints between different Favorites folders or create new ones.
Share Link to any POI
You can now quickly
share a link
to any Point of Interest (POI) or custom map location. When you select an object on the map, the
Share
action generates a universal
osmand.net
URL.
This link can be opened by other OsmAnd users to find the exact location on their devices, or viewed in a web browser.
Weather Quick Actions
New quick actions make it easier to control
weather layers
directly from the map.
Show/Hide – Weather layers
works as a master toggle for all active weather layers. When turned off, it hides all currently enabled weather layers. When turned on again, it restores exactly the same set of layers that were active before.
Show/Hide – Wind animation
allows you to quickly enable or disable the wind animation layer independently.
CarPlay Enhancements
This update brings a more stable and feature-rich experience to your vehicle’s display, addressing key community requests for map appearance and post-arrival actions.
New "You Have Arrived" Dialog
When you reach your destination, CarPlay now displays a redesigned
post-navigation screen
. Instead of simply ending the trip, you are presented with several convenient actions:
Mark as parking position
: Save your current location as a parking spot for easy return later.
Find Parking:
Instantly search for nearby parking lots.
Recalculate route:
Useful if you need to adjust your route at the last moment.
Finish navigation:
Complete the trip and return to the main map.
Enhanced Map Controls
Always Show Dark Map:
You can now force the map to stay in Dark Mode regardless of your car's headlight status or the time of day. This is a highly requested feature for drivers who prefer high-contrast navigation at all times.
Smoother Location Icon:
The "My Location" cursor now moves more fluidly across the screen, providing a more natural and precise representation of your vehicle's position.
Dashboard Stability:
We've resolved an issue where the map could become unresponsive when viewed in the CarPlay Dashboard (multi-window) mode.
Improved OBD-II Connectivity
For users who monitor their vehicle's health and performance in real-time, we have significantly
improved the connectivity
for paired
OBD-II adapters
This update focuses on the stability of the Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) link between your iOS device and the adapter. The connection is now more resilient to interruptions, ensuring a steady flow of data—such as engine RPM, speed, and fuel consumption—directly into your OsmAnd widgets and GPX logs.
Faster Reconnection:
The app now reconnects more reliably when you return to your vehicle.
Data Accuracy:
Improved handling of sensor data packets reduces "frozen" values in your dashboard widgets.
Popular Places
The
Popular Places
layer has been significantly updated to provide more control over how you discover points of interest. This feature helps you find the most notable locations in an area, now with improved data source management and visual previews.
Configure map → Show on map → Popular places (Wikipedia)
POI Source Selection
You can now choose between
Online
and
Offline
sources for Popular Places.
Online:
Fetches the most up-to-date popularity data from OsmAnd servers.
Offline:
Uses data stored within your downloaded
Wikipedia maps
, allowing you to discover top sites even without an internet connection.
Image Previews on Map
To make the map more interactive, you can now enable
image previews
. When this option is toggled on, small thumbnails from Wikipedia appear directly on the map for top-rated locations. This helps you visually identify landmarks and decide where to head next without needing to open the full POI description.
Unsupported Maps Management
The
Updates
tab now detects unsupported and overlapping region maps. If a map has been deprecated and replaced by smaller regional maps, it appears under a new Unsupported maps section. You can review the list, remove outdated maps individually or use Delete all to clean them up at once (with confirmation). Large overlapping region maps are hidden to prevent duplication and confusion, helping keep your map data organized and up to date.
Other Improvements
Redesigned Graph Axis Selection
The "Analyze on map" graph now includes a redesigned axis selection menu. The new interface allows configuring both the X-axis and Y-axis in a single sheet and supports selecting up to two data types for the Y-axis. Additional data sources such as
external sensors
and
vehicle metrics (OBD-II)
are now available when present in the track data, making it easier to analyse different aspects of a recorded track.
Enhanced Search Result Details
POI search results have been improved with a more consistent city display, optional thumbnails, and a refined layout to help you identify locations at a glance.
Improved Trail and Route Interaction
We’ve refined how the map handles
taps on trails and hiking/cycling routes
. This update ensures that selecting a route directly from the map consistently opens the correct details and highlights the entire path, fixing previous issues where the selection would fail or become unresponsive. Route shields for specialized activities—including fitness, running, and canoe routes — are now fully interactive.
"Distance by Tap" Refinement
Improved the "Distance by tap" tool to prevent the ruler from accidentally appearing or changing state while you are swiping or moving the map. The tool now correctly distinguishes between a deliberate tap to measure distance and general map navigation.
Widget Icon Visibility
Added a new option
to show or hide icon on widgets
. This allows for a cleaner, more minimalist dashboard by displaying only data, which is especially useful for medium and large widget layouts.
Bug fixes
Fixed
ETA not updating in Navigation widgets
while the vehicle is stationary;
Fixed

Fixed
wrong language displayed in Wikipedia POI details
Fixed
broken UI and corrupted X-axis scale in "Analyze on Map" for segments

Fixed
Selection Pin offset when selecting a point from the "What's here" menu
Fixed

Resolved

Resolved
UI issue where character descenders were cropped in the Next turn widget
Resolved
issue where temporary GPX files were visible in search results
Resolved
issue where vehicle parameters did not correctly respect changes to measurement units or region settings
Fixed
issue where tapping Favorites on the map would fail if the map was rotated
Fixed
issue where POIs would fail to render if the OSM notes layer was enabled under poor internet connectivity
Resolved
issue where the POI context menu displayed redundant categories or tags
Fixed
issue where the customized route line color would not update until the page was refreshed
Fixed
issue where Bremen was displayed inconsistently compared to other German regions on the map

From February 21th to April 23th I spend 192 extra hours on iD and iD tagging schema, thanks to
funding from OpenStreetMap Foundation
. This grant is now complete and I want to report on progress made thanks to it.
And I want to also thank for other help:
Kyℓe Hensel (k-yle) and Martin Raifer (tyrasd) for multiple meetings to process found PRs/issues (as some actions required consultations or can be taken only by maintainers)
authors of pull requests, for preparing code - I also want to thank all people who made good faith contributions but where PR were either sadly closed without merge for some reason (or are not yet processed at all - sadly many are still waiting)
authors of various useful issues
people who provided feedback by reviewing - github, on forums
special thanks for language advise to Brian Sperlongano (ZeLonewolf) and Minh Nguyễn (1ec5) and others
everyone else who helped
Here is list of pull requests and issues that were processed during that time, with very limited commentary. I will post also report on forums with more commentary and without detailed listing of issues and PRs.
I want to mention also that substantial design and review work was spend on
schema builder

Xaritaga biror joyni (do‘kon, bekat yoki tashkilot) kiritishda quyidagilarga e’tibor berishni maslahat beraman:
Joylashuvni qayta tekshiring: Nuqtani qo‘yishdan oldin koinotdan olingan suratlarni (yo‘ldosh tasviri) haqiqiy holat bilan solishtiring. Ba’zida suratlar biroz siljigan bo‘lishi mumkin, shuning uchun ko‘cha chiziqlari bilan mosligiga qarang.
Ma’lumotlarni to‘g‘ri tanlang: Joy nomini yozish bilan cheklanmasdan, uning vazifasini ham aniq belgilang (masalan: dorixona, savdo do‘koni yoki o‘quv markazi). Bu qidiruv tizimlari xaritadagi joyni oson topishiga yordam beradi.

To‘g‘ri to‘ldirilgan xarita — hamma uchun foydali! Agar sizda ham xaritani mukammallashtirish bo‘yicha savollar bo‘lsa, izohlarda qoldiring, birgalikda o‘rganamiz.

I’m currently in England and have been focusing much of my mapping on improving coverage and detail across the UK. This includes refining road classifications, updating POIs, checking alignments, and making sure tagging stays consistent with current conventions. I try to ground edits in available imagery, local knowledge where possible, and existing community practices.
Alongside that, I’ve been contributing to mapping efforts in parts of Africa. In many of these areas, even small additions like connecting road networks, adding missing settlements, or improving basic infrastructure data can make a meaningful difference for map usability. I’ve been working through tasks such as validating road geometry, adding surface and access tags where appropriate, and helping expand coverage in places that are still relatively under-mapped.
I’m also interested in maintaining data quality over time, not just adding new features. That means reviewing older edits, resolving inconsistencies, and occasionally revisiting areas as better imagery or information becomes available. Consistency in tagging and structure is something I try to pay attention to, especially when working across different regions with varying mapping styles.
Going forward, I’ll continue contributing where I can, both locally in the UK and in regions that benefit from additional mapping support. (i only got into mapping cuz i was bored as i cant play video games… for some reason)
(Made by chatgpt which is why it sound awkward, i just told it my info and it made this) thank u to all who actually read these…

Bilemiyorum Altan, bilemiyorum…

If you’ve been surveying the OpenStreetMap (OSM) map notes in Indonesia, you’ve likely encountered a wave of “spam” or irrelevant notes. These aren’t usually malicious; rather, they are often misplaced private memos from third-party mobile applications that use OSM tiles.
Users often mistake the “Add a Note” feature for a personal notepad or a private “Save Location” tool. Some of these notes are even remnants of data synced from apps nearly a decade ago.
Why is this happening? Many apps integrate OSM. Users see a “Notes” button and assume it’s a private diary for their travels.
This list of spam keywords is not exhaustive. I will continue to update this diary entry as new patterns emerge from the Indonesian mapping community.

My Introduction to OSM at Unique Mappers Network

Language: English
Setting The Scene.
I was introduced to Unique Mappers Network (UMT) by my mentor; an Environmental Consultant, CEO, lecturer, and Engineer, Engr. Andrew John. He informed me about a call for applications that had been advertised on LinkedIn on the 26 February 2026. With only three days to apply, I seized the opportunity with much excitement. It was a chance to utilise and build on my knowledge and skills in GIS.
I submitted my application and was delighted when UMT accepted me. I was then invited to visit the headquarters in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, for an interview and induction.
Arriving At UMT.
I arrived at UMT headquarters for the first time filled with excitement and curiosity. The National Coordinator, Dr Victor, interviewed me and gave me a thorough induction on what to expect during my time with the organisation. I was later added to the organisation’s group chat and had the opportunity to ask questions and learn about UMT’s excellent achievements, including their international engagements in Paris and Romania, OSM conference and State of the Map.
I was impressed by Dr Victor’s depth of knowledge and experience in GIS, training, and event coordination. From that first conversation, I felt assured of the quality of guidance that would be available to me throughout my internship.
How I Found Unique Mappers Network.
Before arriving, I had already read about the organisation, how it was founded in 2017, its mission of humanitarian action and community development through mapping, and its growing list of achievements and international participation.
I already had some knowledge of environmental monitoring and GIS from my first and second years at Nottingham Trent university, and I am looking forward to my final year, where I will be taking a module on Remote Sensing. This internship with UMT was a perfect opportunity to share my skills in environmental monitoring and GIS while learning new things and building practical experience in an organisation dedicated to humanitarian mapping. It would also help me prepare actively for my remote-sensing module.
What UMT Do: In My Own Words.
Unique Mappers Network is a non-governmental organisation driven by youth empowerment, community development, humanitarian action, and mentorship all through mapping.
Its mission is global, leveraging OpenStreetMap (OSM) as a tool to empower young people and enlighten communities and institutions about the power of mapping. The skills developed at UMT can be applied across humanitarian work, technology, research, consulting, urban planning, remote sensing, oil and gas industry, natural-resources management, and much more.
My First Day What Actually Happened.
Activities and Sessions
On 31 March 2026, I was received by the team with warmth and given a few exciting tasks to carry out. First, I was asked to give a presentation on an internship proposal for my 6 months with the organisation. The feedback I received was constructive and insightful, helping me understand how to make the most of my time at UMT.
I was then introduced to the HOT certification courses on Introduction to Open Mapping and Introduction to OpenStreetMap. I also received a tutorial on how to map on OSM, which added to my existing experience with QGIS. Learning how to contribute practically to the very OSM data I had been using in my QGIS projects was genuinely mind-blowing.
I was also taught how to publish an OSM diary entry and given tasks to publish on OSM and share my HOT certificates on LinkedIn. There were so many exciting opportunities to learn and grow from day one.
The tools and platforms I was introduced to included OSM, the iD Editor, JOSM, the Tasking Manager, and the HOT course platform.
People I Met.
I met Grace, a talented and experienced team member who is also a super mapper with excellent experience in using drones for mapping. Grace gave me valuable feedback on my proposal and shared her own mapping journey with me.
What I Learned on Day One.
I learned many new things, but the single most important realisation was this: it is individuals, people like me who contribute to the OSM map I had been using in QGIS all along. Understanding that I could be part of building that dataset was a powerful moment.
Giving the proposal presentation was nerve-wracking, challenging, and exciting all at once but I did it anyway. I am glad I pushed through, because the constructive feedback I received was invaluable.
Reflecting on What This Means to Me.
At the end of my first day, I felt that I had a great deal to look forward to. The energy of the team, the depth of knowledge available, and the sheer variety of tools and skills on offer all left a lasting impression.
Contributing to open mapping in Nigeria means something personal to me. It connects my academic studies in Environmental cience with real-world impact helping communities become visible on the map and supporting humanitarian responses where they are needed most.
I am most looking forward to deepening my skills in OSM mapping, earning my HOT certifications, and contributing meaningfully to projects that make a difference.
Looking Ahead.
This is just the beginning of my journey with Unique Mappers Network, and I cannot wait to see where it leads. If you want to support open mapping in Nigeria or connect with a vibrant community of young mappers, check out Unique Mappers Network you won’t regret it.

Beyond Mapping with the OSM Activity Calendar

In 2010, I started “
How did you contribute to OpenStreetMap?
” (HDYC) as a
fun side project
. Even after more than 15 years, it is still great to see that this website is being used by so many people from the OSM community and even in academic research.
Some features were implemented based on community feedback. Others were simply features I thought might be useful, so I just built and deployed them without much prior discussion. From time to time, I also like to draw inspiration from GitHub and other platforms. That is how the first version of the heatmap calendar on HDYC came about back in 2016, to make mapping activity more visible. More precisely, on August 5, 2016: greetings to
Harry
, even though we have never met in person. Since early 2025, a similar calendar has also been integrated into the default
OSM profile page
. Like the one on HDYC, it shows editing activity by weekday over the last 365 days.
For many people in the OpenStreetMap project, however, it is not just about mapping itself, but about many other activities around the project. That is why I decided to implement a new version of the calendar on HDYC. In this first version, it is called “OSM Activity.” In my view, this makes it easier to quickly see when a user was particularly active — not only in mapping itself, but also in other OSM-related activities such as changeset discussions or note handling.
What does the calendar show?
In addition to daily changesets, there are now also categories for:
map edits
changeset discussion comments
note activity
The individual calendars on my server are no longer updated through a database trigger whenever a user contribution comes in, but instead through a job that runs every five minutes. So please do not think of the calendar as a live monitoring tool. If there is a strong need for that, I can still add it, but I wanted to reduce the number of triggers in my data processing.
For many years, there was also repeated interest in having an “
OSM streak
” shown on my site as a motivational indicator for mappers. The OSM Streak website already exists, but I decided to calculate this metric myself. As a result, the website now shows not only a contributor’s current streak, but also their longest streak. Since an OSM infrastructure outage or maintenance can interrupt a streak through no fault of the user, the following days are excluded from the calculation: 2006-05-03, 2009-04-18, 2009-04-19, 2009-04-20, 2010-07-02, 2012-04-02, 2012-04-03, 2024-12-16. If a day is missing here due to maintenance or a similar issue, please let me know.
What’s next?
The HDYC website currently still includes detailed charts showing the frequency of contributions by day and by hour. I plan to remove these two charts soon, unless there are major objections from the community that strongly favor keeping this information.
As I mentioned at the beginning, this project was created with the idea of making as many aspects as possible of a member’s OSM contributions visible. My guiding principle was always to evaluate and display everything contained in the OSM data. However, recent technological developments have made me reconsider this approach. We should not make ourselves fully transparent online. My future direction will therefore be to focus more strongly on current user statistics — for example, the last 14 days or the last three months — instead of showing the full activity of the past 20 years by default.
The recently added username history has therefore been limited to username changes from the last three months. I received several messages from users asking for this, especially because earlier versions of their username included their real name.
Happy mapping!

Fairview, California
All that’s left is things like power poles, fire hydrants. But every building has a shape now. Every thing that has an address is now on the map.
I know in a month or so I will have to go back and adjust 2nd at Windfeldt as a new sidewalk is being put in. It’s about 2/3 complete.
I started the mapping process on November 18. So five months to map my home.

Astronomy Plugin
Astronomy plugin
displays an interactive star sky overlay with stars, constellations, the Sun, the Moon, and planets. It helps you identify celestial objects above your current location, preview their paths for a selected date and time, and plan stargazing sessions using built-in time controls and viewing options:
Plugins → Astronomy
Interactive Sky Search
The plugin includes a dedicated
tool specifically for celestial objects. You can browse through categories like the Solar System, Constellations, Stars, and Deep Sky objects. The "Watch now" section highlights objects currently visible from your location, while advanced filters allow you to sort by magnitude (brightness) or upcoming rise/set times.
Earth Map Integration
To help you orient your observations, you can enable an
Earth Map
view directly beneath the Star map. This feature allows you to relate celestial positions to your real-world geographic surroundings. Additionally, the
AR Star Finding
(Camera mode) uses your device's sensors to overlay the astronomical data onto your live camera feed, making it easy to find exact stars and planets in the real sky.
Map Screen Layout
The
Map screen layout
setting allows you to control how widget panels are arranged on the map screen. It helps prevent widgets and buttons from overlapping and improves screen space usage, especially when switching between portrait and landscape orientations.
OsmAnd menu → Configure screen → ⋮ → Map Screen Layout
Panels layouts
Once you enable Separate layouts
, you unlock the ability to choose how the top and bottom widget panels interact with the rest of the interface: Wide or Compact.
OsmAnd menu → Configure screen → Panels Layout
3D Buildings
3D Buildings
feature displays buildings as volumetric 3D models instead of flat shapes.
Confgure map → Topography → 3D Buildings
Selection & Highlighting
As part of our ongoing 3D map improvements, you can now highlight specific buildings on the map. When the
3D buildings option
is enabled, selecting a POI will automatically highlight the corresponding building polygon, making it easier to identify your target in dense urban environments.
Globe View
Globe View
allows you to display the map as a spherical Earth instead of a flat projection. This mode changes the geometry of the map surface and adapts map interaction to spherical navigation.
Confgure map → Topography → Globe View
New Trip Recording Widgets
Multiple Display Modes
Some Trip Recording widgets support multiple display modes. They let you switch between overall trip values and metrics for the most recent uphill or downhill section of the currently recorded trip. See the list of available modes
here
Average Speed
Average Speed
widget shows the average speed for the currently recorded trip, or the average speed during the last uphill or downhill section, depending on the selected mode.
Moving Time
Moving Time
widget shows the moving time for the currently recorded trip, or the time for the last uphill and downhill, depending on the selected mode. |
Speedometer Widget
Speedometer widget
now shows visual speeding alerts with color-coded tolerance and limit-exceed states, including animated transitions when crossing speed thresholds.
Menu → Configure screen → Other → Speedometer
Palette Editor for Terrain & Track Visualization
We've introduced a powerful new palette editor that gives you full control over how data is visualized on your map. Whether you are analyzing a GPX track or viewing terrain relief, you can now customize the color transitions to suit your needs.
Step-by-Step vs. Gradient Modes
The editor now supports two distinct ways to transition between colors:
Gradient:
Creates a smooth, continuous transition between colors, providing a fluid visual representation of data changes.
Step-by-step:
Allows you to define strict color boundaries. For example, you can set
0–15 km/h
to Yellow and
15.1–30 km/h
to Red. This mode eliminates the gradient, making it easier to identify specific data ranges at a glance.
For GPX Tracks
Tracks Context menu → Appearance → Colour → + or All colors
Tracks colored by Speed, Altitude, or Slope now support
Editor Colour Palettes
. You can create
Relative palettes
(auto-scaled to your specific track data) or
Fixed value palettes
(based on absolute numbers), define custom color steps, and even set a unique color for missing data points.
For Terrain Coloring
Configure map → Terrain → Modify → + or All colors
This same editor has been integrated into
terrain coloring options
. You can now create your own custom color schemes for Altitude and Slope layers, allowing for a more personalized and readable terrain relief.
Bicycle Width Parameter
Cycling profiles now support a
bicycle width parameter
. The router takes this value into account to help avoid narrow cycle paths that may not be suitable for wider bicycles.
Other Improvements
Auto-organize tracks by year, length, activity & more
Managing large collections of recordings is now much simpler with our new "Smart Folder" system. Organize your tracks dynamically by year, activity, or distance to keep your history clean and accessible.
The new grouping mechanism allows you to create dynamic groups with any granularity you want. For example, you can group your entire library by Year, then sub-group by Activity type, and finally by Distance (e.g., 0-10km, 10-50km) or Duration. These folders provide helpful summaries, including total distance, duration, and average speed for each specific filtered group.
Enhanced Search Result Details
Navigating search results for common locations is now more intuitive. By displaying the city and street name directly in the results list, you can instantly distinguish between identical POI names without needing to open each one individually.
Improved Track Waypoint Navigation
We’ve refined how you interact with waypoints within a track. You can now tap through the waypoint list to center the map on each point sequentially. Crucially, the list remains open during this process, allowing for a much faster and more seamless route-review experience.
New POI Share Links
Sharing specific locations has been upgraded to support a new link format (aligned with our Web version). This ensures that when you share a POI, the recipient sees the exact same point and context across different platforms and devices.
Expanded Activity Profile Icons
To better support diverse outdoor activities, we are expanding our library of profile icons. Dedicated new icons for running, sailing, skateboarding, and etc are being added to make switching between your favorite activities more visually intuitive.
Multi-Selection for Favorites
Managing "My Places" is now more efficient with the addition of multi-selection support for Favorites. Just like with tracks, you can now select multiple saved points at once to move them to a different folder, share them, or delete them in bulk.
Refining Plugin Organization
We are restructuring how custom plugins are presented to help users distinguish between core built-in and custom plugins. This reorganization makes the app's extensive functionality more discoverable and less overwhelming for new users.
GPX Start/Finish Icon Optimization
To improve performance and prevent app freezes, we’ve updated how Start/Finish icons are handled for complex tracks. These icons are now disabled by default for tracks with more than 10 points and are force-disabled for very heavy tracks (over 100 points) to ensure a smooth map-viewing experience.
ODB-II Adapter Voltage Widget
For users with OBD2 integration, we've added a new dedicated widget to monitor "Adapter Voltage." This allows you to keep an eye on your vehicle's electrical health directly from the main navigation screen.
OBD-II Vehicle Metrics in Track Graphs
Vehicle data recorded via OBD-II can now be analyzed directly on the Analyze on map graph for tracks. This allows you to visualize parameters such as engine speed, temperature, fuel metrics, and more alongside standard track data.
Bug fixes
Fixed
the ability to delete all downloaded maps by country at once
Enhanced
the Popular Places tool by resolving crashes during map zoom interactions
Improved
GPX database maintenance with a new light analysis mode
Corrected
the missing center-point crosshair on the Weather screen
Fixed
UI overlaps where the map scale bar covered the Plan-a-Route tool
Stabilized
Android Auto navigation starts when a destination is set via the phone
Improved
track filtering by fixing a bug where secondary edits to "To" values were ignored
Fixed
UI layout issues where the Plan-a-Route overlay slider was incorrectly centered
Corrected
button overlaps between "Search" and "Close" on tablet layouts
Enhanced
the route start process to reduce user interaction requirements for map inconsistencies
Improved
the "Analyze on map" feature to remember user-selected X and Y axis settings
Fixed
visual offsets occurring in Landscape Mode during route planning sessions
Resolved
empty detail views for generic or untagged buildings in the "Within" menu
Stabilized
application performance by addressing frequent crashes during route creation
Enhanced
Wikipedia integration by adding support for full-screen photo descriptions
Improved
Android Auto routing stability by ensuring navigation persists when switching apps
Restored
the color scheme preview in the Terrain menu
Corrected
UI insets and layout overlaps for Quick Action buttons after importing settings
Resolved duplicate entries and language-filtering bugs in
the Popular Places
feature when using Wikipedia and offline maps.

Parking in Portugal
. Em algumas edições, utilizei o hashtag
#portugal-estacionamento
(exemplo do nó
osm.org/node/13568145429/
.)
Zonas
.)
Há 108 zonas castanhas, 65 vermelhas, 21 verdes e 12 amarelas.
Áreas
Todas as áreas têm as seguintes etiquetas (exemplo da área
osm.org/way/1393820495/
):
access=yes
amenity=parking
capacity=6
capacity:disabled=no
charge=0.56 EUR/hour

É preciso pagar das 08:00 às 20:00 de segunda-feira a sexta-feira e das 08:00 às 14:00 no sábado; no resto das horas e dias, é gratuito estacionar nestas zonas.
Foi possível adicionar detalhes, como as etiquetas
orientation
surface
, graças às imagens aéreas e de rua. A maioria das áreas são
street_side
. Nenhuma das áreas está coberta.
Infelizmente, não todas as zonas têm a etiqueta
capacity
.)
Parcómetros
Sobre os parcómetros, todos eles têm as seguintes etiquetas (exemplo do nó
osm.org/node/13208674714/
):
amenity=vending_machine
brand=Schlumberger
currency:EUR=yes
manufacture_date=2011

ref:PT:IPQ=301.25.98.3.29
ref:manufacturer=1263583
vending=parking_tickets
zone=castanha
zone:colour=brown
@mikedld

OpenStreetMap-Carto
the iconic OSM map style switched to using the “flex” output in
version
6.0.0
. And now the
OSM Foundation has finished their gradual rollout of the new
version
. So the most
important user of osm2pgsql doesn’t need the old “pgsql” output any more.
That switch has been eagerly awaited by the osm2pgsql maintainers, because it
means we can start planning to retire the old “pgsql” output in earnest. This
will allow us to remove a lot of code and simplify other parts of osm2pgsql
making it easier to maintain and improve in the long term. We have already
marked the “pgsql” output as deprecated with
version
2.0.0
released in
2024, so this shouldn’t come as a surprise. The old “pgsql” output will not go
away immediately, but it will also not be available forever. If you are still
using it, start migrating your styles.

I reached Hauxley again today, but this time I started from Alnwick and used the cycle path along the Aln Valley Railay to connect with NCN1 at Hipsburn. Parts of this route were on main roads. but traffic on a Sunday was fairly light, so didn't cause much of a problem.
Along the coast there was a bit of a tailwind on the way out, and a headwind on the way back. Otherwise it was calm, dry, and mostly sunny. There were several walkers and cyclists enjoying the weather, and Amble was busy with the Sunday market on the quayside. Everyone seemed to be in a good mood.
We regularly walk the path along the Aln Valley Railway, but it's a long time since I've cycled it, so that was a bit of novelty. To reach the railway on the return journey I had to climb the gradient from Hipsburn, past Alnmouth Station to Bilton. I anticipated that this would be too difficult for me to ride up. and expected a walk. But in the event I managed it. So that was a pleasant surprise. Also, hedges have now burst into life but they've been trimming them on the road to Warkworth Beach. As a result a wartime pillbox has been exposed. I've passed this numerous times, without noticing it. There are surprises even on familiar parts of a route.

, making it one of the top-rated map alternatives alongside OpenStreetMap.
Oliver Wipfli
reported
on the progress of the open-source Mapterhorn project, which provides global terrain data as PMTiles and is now widely used (we
reported
earlier). The pipeline uses Copernicus GLO30, a global 30 m resolution dataset, as a baseline and refines it with local models. A new grant from the NLnet Foundation (which distributes funding from the EU Commission) will improve the pipeline to include open aerial imagery, as an extended project titled ‘Mapterhorn Imagery’ .
OpenTrafficMap
is a new project with a focus on
visualising
real-time data from traffic signals and C-ITS-enabled vehicles on top of OpenStreetMap. The current focus is on
Graz
(Austria), where a higher density of tracked signals and vehicles are already available.
The OSRM API
documentation
has been
refreshed
with a cleaner design that provides easy navigation and covers all six OSRM services: Route, Table, Map Matching, Trip Planning, Nearest, and Tile. OSRM is a high performance routing engine for OpenStreetMap data and one of the most widely used in the world.
The GNOME Maps project is
working
on displaying public transport delays using the
Transitous
and
MOTIS
APIs. In
addition
to scheduled times and real-time updates, status indicators will be taken into account. MOTIS is the acronym for the Modular Open Transportation Information System.
Stadia Maps is
offering
a public preview of traffic-influenced routing based on OpenStreetMap, integrating real-time and historical traffic data. The feature
targets
use cases where accurate travel times, such as logistics and ride-hailing, are required.
The ‘WillCycle GPS Art Generator’
allows
users to
turn
drawings into real-world routes by matching them to roads and paths. It uses BRouter and OpenStreetMap data to generate GPX tracks for creative cycling routes.
Programming
Cláudio Tereso
demonstrated
how OpenStreetMap data can be integrated via the Overpass API into Power BI to create interactive maps of wild swimming locations. Photos and additional information are also included.
Thomas Derflinger has
developed
a Docker container to run your own local Overpass API instance. This stateless Docker container keeps OSM data on your host file system, while providing all the tools needed for data conversion and querying. It includes a simple shell script to download and ingest OSM data and it also runs on Raspberry Pi 5. The container does not implement updates from OSM. We
reported
on Roland Olbricht’s Docker container earlier and both
Kai Johnson
and
Wiktor Niesiobędzki
have their own versions.
wielandb’s StreetComplete pull request
proposed
a new quest to capture the direction in which bicycles may travel on separate pavements and cycleways. The approach considers country-specific rules and visible signage to avoid incorrect data.
Releases
[1] Ralph Straumann
presented
Terraink, a web application for creating stylised map posters based on OpenStreetMap data. It
offers
extensive customisation options for layout, colours, and content, targeting users who want to design unique maps for print or social media.
Version 3.16 of OpenMapTiles
brought
improvements to the transportation layer, including better road connections, additional path information, and enhanced styling for roads and railways.
Version 2026.04.07-8 of CoMaps
updated
OSM data and fixed several crashes, including issues with routing and edit uploads. It also introduced map style improvements, such as better road and tree visibility, and additional POI information.
The April update of Organic Maps
introduced
elevation profiles for hiking and cycling routes, improved address search (especially in the US), and enabled seamless map rendering across the anti-meridian.
MapComplete
announced
several new features, such as adding pictures to place reviews, a colour-coded
maxspeed
theme, and updates to the cycle-infra theme.
Yohan Boniface has
released
version 3.7.3 of uMap. This update addressed an issue that occurred when cloning maps, where layer relationships were not copied correctly. In addition, a minor bug in the Docker configuration was fixed, so that nginx is now ready to use right away.
OSRM version 26.4.0
brought
multiple improvements, including enhancements to routing profiles (e.g., better handling of
cycleway=*
and
sidewalk=*
tags) plus various stability and build fixes. It also
modernised
the release process with automated monthly releases and a new versioning scheme.
Marcus Jaschen
reported
that Bikerouter’s shortlink and QR code service has been migrated to a new server and that a new web service for generating route preview images has been developed. Both changes prepare for an
upcoming
feature: a built-in route manager that will allow you to store, organise, and restore planned routes on the server.
Version 2.0 of
Transportflow
has been
released
Alexis Lecanu (aka ravenfeld)
released
version 1.21.0 of the Baba app, introducing automatic screen orientation based on camera sensors. This improves usability when capturing images, e.g., for Panoramax.
Tiri, an independent developer based in Germany,
reported
on the OpenStreetMap Community forum that he is building
Xopoz
, an Android GNSS team tracking app for professional field teams, such as mountain guides, search and rescue volunteers, NGO field operations, and adventure tour operators. The app is built entirely on OpenStreetMap data with zero Google dependency and the geolocations are end-to-end encrypted.
OSM in the media
The City of
Seattle
has temporarily
removed
its official bike map PDF in the wake of new accessibility requirements, according to an article on the
Seattle Bike Blog
. The article highlighted OpenStreetMap as an alternative, which offers more detailed and up-to-date cycling infrastructure and is continuously improved by the community.
Other “geo” things
Attila Bátorfy
wrote
about Dutch ‘cartocubism’, a forgotten attempt to simplify maps from the interwar period.
The website
trainjazz.com
uses subway train geolocation data to create a dynamic soundscape, where each train represents a musical note. The result is an ever-changing composition that even adapts to the user’s geolocation. Jake Z
commented
on kottke.org that there is a 10 year old application similar to this called
Conductor
, on
mta.me
, developed by
Alexander Chen
, where the New York subway system is turned into a string instrument.
Brilliant Maps has
published
their ‘Map of Asia Made Up of its National Animals’. A similar map for European countries has also been
published
. Both maps were created by Ibis_Wolfieand and there is some
discussion
on Reddit about these maps.
The article ‘Real Maps for Imaginary Places: a journey into the cartography of literature’, written by Neely Tucker and
published
on the Library of Congress’ website, highlighted how maps have long played a key role in literature, from
Treasure Island
to
The Lord of the Rings
. These maps help readers understand fictional worlds spatially and make the stories more tangible.

Regarding Lougheed Highway in Coquitlam, BC, Canada:
Nothing along Lougheed between Sage Place and Schoolhouse is accessible to foot traffic, but much of it claims to be, despite the significant danger. Lougheed appears to be editable in many sections, and I don’t know how to change the entire strip easily. Can someone help? Thank you!
