Our Approach | P3 Charity
Our Approach
At P3 Charity, we believe that every person’s experience is unique, and the support we provide must reflect that. Our work is built on two key principles:
Psychologically Informed Environments (PIE)
Trauma-Informed Care (TIC)
By embedding PIE and TIC into everything we do, we ensure that P3 is a place where people feel safe, understood and empowered to take control of their futures.
Everyone we support has the right to feel safe in their home and community, so safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do.
Psychologically Informed Environments
Put simply, a psychologically informed environment (PIE) means that when we support someone, we see the whole person—not just their current circumstances—and we recognise that past trauma and difficult experiences shape how someone thinks, feels and behaves and we build a support environment tailored to that unique individual.
Taking a PIE approach allows us to look beyond a person’s behaviour, to understand the reasons behind someone’s anxiety or anger and to build the trust needed to allow long-term recovery to happen. Our places, spaces and programmes are co-produced by people with lived experience of homelessness, substance misuse and mental ill-health, ensuring we’re offering an approach that allows people to feel safe, heard and empowered to take the next steps in their lives.
Trauma-Informed Care
Delivering trauma-informed care (TIC) means that we recognise that experiencing trauma can affect a person, shaping behaviour, influencing decision-making and impacting mental and physical well-being.
Our support teams are trained to recognise the signs of trauma and provide support that is safe, respectful and empowering.
Trauma comes in many forms and can include:
Acute trauma that results from a single stressful or dangerous event
Chronic trauma that results from repeated and prolonged exposure to highly stressful events.
Complex trauma resulting from exposure to multiple traumatic events, usually early in life disrupting a child’s development.
Taking a TIC approach means we:
Pro-actively create safe and stable environments for the people we support.
Avoid re-traumatisation by considering a person’s individual needs.
Offer support with understanding and sensitivity so individuals can regain control over their lives at their own pace.
Safeguarding
Our commitment
Everyone we support has the right to feel safe in their home and community.
If you don’t feel safe, please talk to your P3 Support Worker. We will listen and help you find the right support.
If you are working with someone supported by P3 and have concerns for their safety, you can report a safeguarding concern on their behalf.
What is safeguarding?
Safeguarding means keeping people safe from harm, abuse, or neglect.
At P3, we work with other organisations to:
prevent harm before it happens
stop abuse or neglect when it does happen
make sure people’s wellbeing comes first
Importantly, we listen to the person involved and consider their feelings, views and choices before taking action.
Our safeguarding promise
At P3, keeping people safe is our top priority.
All staff and volunteers are trained to recognise and respond to safeguarding concerns.
We thoroughly check the background of staff before they start working with us.
If we hear about a safeguarding concern, we investigate fully and report it to the right authorities, including local councils, the Charity Commission (if necessary) and background check organisations.
We follow strict safeguarding policies for both adults and children, which are updated regularly to follow UK laws and best practices.

All our supported accommodation for young people follows the Ofsted Supported Accommodation Regulations 2023.
