Abstract
The book is part of Initiatives consistent with the objectives of the #NewEuropeanBauhaus: https://www.polimi.it/il-politecnico/progetti-di-ateneo/newbauhauspolimi/
“Urban interstices”—their design—are the topic of this book. What are urban interstices? What different issues, opportunities, roles, and concepts do they deal with?
The book’s five chapters written by urban planners, architects and interior designers provide five different views and keys—Urban rewriting, Architectural threshold, Green rooms, Connecting publicness, Ephemeral devices—and draft a possible path to sound the spectrum of urban interstices’ design in Italy.
Urban space can be “interstitial” in its ambiguous capability of signification in the sense-making process; that is, in the double valence of a mute void—space without signification—or meaningful room—a small and dense universe of suspension. Sometimes the project for interstitial spaces aims to transform the former into the latter. Sometimes, on the other hand, the project makes the interstice an interface, connector, exchanger, membrane, space of interrelation. So that urban interstices become alternatively thresholds and pulsating rooms, and urban catalysts activated by specific design moves and devices. And somehow they also speak
of a general “interstitial” condition of urban space today.
The critical path proposed here is based on the review of seventy contemporary Italian cases. A collection of sixty projects is provided in the second part of the book, while ten cases—two for each thematic key—are explored in brief monographic essays and by interviews with the authors of the projects. They are the subject of the photographic essay, Visual narration by Marco Introini, put in the middle of the book.

La saga de Ashram Shambhala. Esoterismo y repertorio antisectas en Rusia y Argentina
María Vardé
The Journal of CESNUR, 2026

Evaluation of Pole-dipole technique (Bristow's method) to detect the dimension of K-3 cave in Haditha area -west Iraq- Case study
Ali Abed
Maǧallaẗ ǧāmiʻaẗ kirkūk, 2015
K-3 solution cavity is located within Haditha area, Western Iraq. The measurements of Graphical Bristow's method were carried out by using Pole-dipole array, to evaluate the method to detect the dimension of a relatively large natural cave. The cave resulted due to the dissolve of carbonate rocks within Euphrates Formation (Miocene). The actual depth and height of the cave are 38.8m and 29.5m respectively. Two traverses with a-spacing equal to (5m) and length of about 100m are achived, in South- North and West -Eest direction above the cave site. The data interpretation detect the cavity elongate along West -Eest traverse of 58.6m and indicate an error not exceeded 3% in depth and 2% in height values. The results are concluded that this method is useful to be able to detect subsurface cavities and voids.

Impact of the Digital Culture on the Modern Church
Melvin Cobb
Impact of the Digital Culture on the Modern Church: An Analysis of the Effects of Technological Determinism on the Spiritual Development of Adult Christians Participating in a Digital Society, 2025
The impact of the digital transformation of society is characterized by reliance upon digital devices to facilitate commerce and communication and to acquire and store information. Like secular institutions, many churches have adapted to the digital age by implementing online platforms for worship, developing virtual communities, offering online education, and leveraging social media platforms to enhance communication and engagement within congregations. While thoughtful integration of digital technology has enhanced the church’s ability to fulfill its mission, the influence of technology has affected the spiritual growth and formation of its parishioners. This study utilized a qualitative design that invited adult Christians to share their experiences with various digital technologies. The grounded theory research approach yielded scores of anecdotes pertaining to technology selection, usage, and reliance. The analysis was driven by two research questions: the first asked what influence adult Christians’ technological worldview has on their religious practices and the second sought to examine the experiences that adult Christians who rely regularly on digital technology encounter and how they evaluate their reliance upon that technology with respect to their spiritual development. Additionally, the study considered generational differences in digital engagement, distinguishing between digital natives and digital immigrants. Examination of the interview data produced five primary themes. The findings underscored the complex interplay between digital technology and spiritual growth, offering acumen into how Christians traverse the opportunities and obstructions of the digital age. By examining these dynamics, this investigation seeks to provide insights for church leaders, educators, and congregants to navigate the multifaceted relationship between the ever-growing digital culture and the essential need for spiritual formation.

Menachem Fisch
2021

PAESAGGI AGRO-CULTURALI ED ECOMUSEI: LE VIE DELLA MEMORIA
Diana Ciliberti
The term ecomuseum has been applied to a wide range of projects that seek to conserve and interpret aspects of tangible heritage of a defined territory. An ecomuseum is an institution focused on the identity of a place, largely based on local participation and aiming to enhance the welfare and development of local communities. Ecomuseums have become popular as one of the most innovative institutions in the attempt to conjugate conservation and development, culture and environment, local identity and tourism. In this paper we will particularly analyze the case of an ecomuseum, " Ecomuseo Itinerari Frentani " , located in the Lower Molise countryside, which can be considered as the first step of a larger project regarding a network of landscape and material culture ecomuseums spread throughout Italy. We can look at ecomuseums as community – based heritage projects that support sustainable development; they can transform in cultural resource the different elements of territory (anthropological, environmental, zootechnical and agricultural), telling the history of the local identity of a given community. We will analyze some technological instruments, such as Geographical Information Systems and multimedia, which can be considered useful for the implementation of the ecomuseum mission.

6 ème Séance Organisation de la Production
Josué Nicolas
Intro à l'économie, 2019

Violence and Fragmentation in Congo’s Political Marketplace
Peer Schouten
LSE CPR working paper, 2021
Over thirty years of conflict in eastern Congo have been marked by a deepening of the role of violence in politics as well as a progressive fragmentation of the landscape of armed groups. Deepening insecurity in eastern Congo coincides with competition over political power on the national level between the political networks around Felix Tshisekedi and Joseph Kabila. This report explores the relations between political dynamics on the national level and in the east, analyzing the historical evolution and properties of the Congo’s political economy of conflict and testing a political marketplace lens—an approach that foregrounds how the conduct of elites mirrors that of firms competing in a marketplace.

Politecnico di Milano, Faculty Member
Arch, PhD, Professor of Interior Architecture and Exhibition Design, AUIC School, Politecnico di Milano - imma.forino(at)polimi.it
* Main research interests of Imma (Immacolata Concezione) Forino focus on interior architecture and furnishing from a spatial and historiographical point of view that embraces the "human events in daily life" as the foundation of the discipline of Interiors. Many reflections investigate power relationships (gender, social classes, workgroups, and beyond) and their "dispositifs" in the history of interiors and furnishings. Critical reflections are developed through a multidisciplinary theoretical approach that combines contributions from different study sectors ranging from art to literature, sociology to management, and cinema to design. In this connection, she wrote monographs, essays in collections and articles published in Italy and abroad. Another line of research called "Interior Reuse Lab", developed as Research by Design in Interior Design Studio at AUIC School, is related to the reuse and design of obsolete or abandoned interior spaces and guidelines for dealing with a stratified architectural context. Finally, other studies concern small abandoned open spaces, "Urban Interstices", considered "open-air rooms" and must be developed and redesigned. She is on the Board of PhD in Architectural, Urban & Interior Design at Politecnico di Milano, on the Scientific Committee of “Op. cit. Selezione della critica d’arte contemporanea” (IT), “AR. Research, Architecture” (SLO) and "Res Mobilis" (ES) journals. In 2012 for the book "Uffici: Interni arredi oggetti" (Einaudi, Turin 2011), she was awarded the First Award Biella Letteratura e Industria for Essays and the Award Selezione ADI Index within the Section Theoretical, Historical, Critical Research and Editorial Projects.

Use of microorganisms with biofertilizer potential in basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) crop
Revista de Ciencias Agrícolas
Revista de Ciencias Agrícolas, 2025
Basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) cultivation in Colombia is highly versatile in the market and requires technologies to increase its competitiveness and sustainability. The use of biofertilizers represents an efficient strategy to improve productivity. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of inoculating arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF): Claroideoglomus etunicatum and Gigaspora rosea; and the biofertilizers of plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB): Rhizobium leguminosarum, Azospirillum brasilense, and Herbaspirillum frisingense, Fosfotal®, and monibac®, individually and in mixtures on crop production. The experiment was carried out on a commercial farm using a randomized complete block design, three replications, and nine treatments. Results show higher aerial fresh biomass with the inoculation of G. rosea (T3), followed by C. etunicatum (T4), and its mixture with PGPB2 (T8 and T7). There were positive correlations between T3 and G. rosea and plant length, leaf area index, number of stems, and phosphorus uptake. Treatments 4 and 7 showed positive relationships with C. etunicatum and fresh and dry biomass, chlorophyll, nitrogen uptake, and stomatal conductance. Treatments 2 and 8 showed affinity with Azospirillum brasilense, Herbaspirillum sp., and Rhizobium sp., and the physiological variables of intrinsic and extrinsic water use efficiency and the ratio of net photosynthesis to intercellular carbon. It is concluded that AMF, individually or in mixture with PGPB, promotes the growth and development of basil plants, leading to increased fresh biomass production.

A Critical Examination of the Movements of Tyler Robinson2 Uploaded Again
Chris S Friel
This study undertakes a forensic analysis of the thirteen alleged "movements" of Tyler Robinson ("TR") on 10-11 September 2025, as presented through a mixture of FBI assertions, media releases, doorbell-camera footage, and unofficial online reconstructions. Drawing on the authors' earlier seven-episode framework, the paper reframes the sequence into thirteen discrete movements to expose contradictions, evidentiary gaps, and methodological weaknesses in the official and semi-official narratives. The analysis begins with the earliest claimed sightingsincluding the 8:23 AM drive-by in Orem, where "no plate number is visible"-and proceeds through the contested 8:29 AM campus arrival, the so-called "dry run," the two limping episodes, the stairwell ascent, rooftop activity culminating in the shooting, the alleged post-incident outfit change, and later sightings at Memo's Bakery, Dairy Queen, and beyond. Across these movements, the study highlights recurring problems: missing or selectively released footage, timestamp inconsistencies, unexplained investigative omissions, and instances where official documents appear internally contradictory or retroactively edited (e.g., the PCA's "jail copy" claiming investigators observed Robinson's clothing at his residence while he was already in custody). The paper also examines the role of media-driven narrative formation, noting how early releases-such as TMZ's mistimed dry-run clip-shaped public interpretation before evidentiary foundations were established. The cumulative assessment suggests that while Robinson was likely present in Orem that day, several movements attributed to "TR" may involve misidentification, fabrication, or impersonation. The study concludes that the evidentiary record is too inconsistent to sustain a coherent timeline and argues that only full disclosure and adversarial testing in court can resolve the contradictions embedded in the current public narrative.

Accumulation of Proline in Plants under Contaminated Soils—Are We on the Same Page?
Sofia Spormann
Antioxidants
Agricultural soil degradation is occurring at unprecedented rates, not only as an indirect effect of climate change (CC) but also due to intensified agricultural practices which affect soil properties and biodiversity. Therefore, understanding the impacts of CC and soil degradation on plant physiology is crucial for the sustainable development of mitigation strategies to prevent crop productivity losses. The amino acid proline has long been recognized for playing distinct roles in plant cells undergoing osmotic stress. Due to its osmoprotectant and redox-buffering ability, a positive correlation between proline accumulation and plants’ tolerance to abiotic stress has been pointed out in numerous reviews. Indeed, proline quantification is used systematically by plant physiologists as an indicator of the degree of tolerance and a measurement of the antioxidant potential in plants under stressful conditions. Moreover, the exogenous application of proline has been shown to increase resi...

The city, the project and the art of the collaboration
Michelangelo Russo
Abitare insieme. Il progetto contemporaneo dello spazio condiviso. Living together. The contemporary project of the shared space, 2017
The global crisis of our development model coincides, in many ways, with the crisis of the person and collective values belonging to the present stage of civilization, and with increasingly dissipative forms of urban growth, under the pressure of production/consumption cycle. Individualism and competitiveness inevitably corrode collaborative practices and shared visions of life, weakening internal links among citizens and their places, leading to a commoditization of the collective dimension of living, and marginalizing shared values linked to commons. New technologies are modifying social interactions, putting in crisis the spaces of relations while, on the contrary, they should transform cooperation into the art of acting together. The social interactions should not be considered either utopia or repetitive ritual of associated life but, rather, a challenge for actions, focusing on cooperation as a way to achieve mutual benefits, especially in the field of architecture and urban forms, involving planners, administrators and inhabitants. It is necessary to integrate competence and knowledges to practice architecture to give place, shape and size to inhabited spaces by returning to urban images that are rooted in the traces around which unedited forms of identity will strengthen. This book is a collection of essays about potentialities of " living together " , exploring practices of sharing and the knowledges able to interpret new demands of innovation of plans and projects. The contemporary project of the architecture and of the city has to give a response to the increasing needs of new conditions of wellbeing, of environmental cure and sustainable resources use, as strategical factors to tackle the social, economic and environmental critical aspects that risk to become conflicting and unbalanced sources for regions and communities upcoming future.

Santi Centineo
U+D urbanform and design, 2020
ISSN 2384-9207_ISBN 9788894118896 Despite the potentialities that contemporary events would outline for the Interior Design, it is a fact that the Scientific Sector is nowadays suffering a contraction that should bring to an accurate reflection. Basically, there are three emerging critical aspects for the discipline: 1) the increasing distance with other subjects is straining the role of Interior Design, ever more unable to make the built architecture interface with objects; 2) actual guidelines, focused on the technological innovation, that not always hold in correct consideration the subjects with humanistic imprinting; 3) an unfavorable legislative framework that not only excludes the subject from the courses of degree in architecture, but also forces the disciplinary transmissibility exclusively to ‘learningby-doing’ methodologies. Today it seems evident for the architecture (and particularly for the interior architecture) the need of finding again an ethical-normative role and of recovering the historical lesson (nowadays enriched by micro-historical contribution). Furthermore, from a scientific point of view, it would be desirable to focus rather the integration of spatial quality and designed objects’ repertoire, as well as to consolidate the continuity between research action and didactic methodology. Examining the results of the last National Conferences of Interior Architecture, it is clearly emerging the need for an accurate reflection that gives a scientific answer to these complex issues.

Contrary motion, in Bertelli G., Bracchi P., Mei P. (edited by), ARCHITECTURE FOR A CREATIVE CITY Piacenza towards Expo, Maggioli, Rimini 2015
Flavia Zaffora
Within the general strategy of the projects coordinated by Sandro Rolla and Marina Tornatora, the project of “Land” thematic pavilion is settled on the edge of Piacenza south expansion. The main idea is that, operating by meaningful fragments, the specific intervention is able to generate long term and wide-range transformations, overcrossing the specific area limits and having an effect on a territory scale. It focuses on the main issue of the peri-urban space, whose ambiguity has been at the center of contemporary architectural debate. This is approached by the design of the soil, in order to tie up areas of the city and make them the enhancement key of the future urban development. The project chooses to catch the nature of the place, both urban, because it holds the last built fringes and crossed by several infrastructural traces, and rural, as a fragment of a rural life still alive in the close proximity. It chooses to operate like a musical contrary motion, where one of the two melodic lines moves up, and the other moves down: the project defines a crossing flux attracted from the countryside and, conversely, it comes back towards the city, tracing a bike and pedestrian path; proceeding from and towards the farmstead, it excavates the ground and gets the internal courtyard from a lower level, open air.
