Abstract

A subtle interactive space filled with ephemeral light sources, projection and sound. Ethereal impressions reminiscent of meteorological effects create a transformative environment inhabited by Bonemap performers. Large forms are seamlessly integrated into the work as both sculptural elements and projection surfaces. Through the reinterpretation and creative visualisation of ancient landmass and fleeting atmospheric effects the work represents the sanctuary of a 'cove'. Sculptural representations of sea passages and landing sites integrate with media and performance to complete the immersive quality of the installation. Created as an interactive media arts experience that transforms the interior of the theatre into an immersive space that places the audience at the centre of an imaginary geography. new media | image maker | performance technologist Based in northern Australia, interdisciplinary and intercultural collaboration and exchange has been a focus of my research practice for two decades. Having received awards across the fields of performing arts, new media and visual arts, including interdisciplinary residencies, art-built-in commissions and a number of grant awards from national, state and local governments and international foundations. As a principal artist I have engaged with: Tokyo Next Wave Festival, Experimentica Festival Wales UK, New Criteria Festival Singapore, the Adelaide Fringe and Adelaide Festival, Performance Space Sydney, On Edge Media & Performance Festival Cairns. My visual art works are represented in the collections of The Queensland Art Gallery Brisbane, Cairns Regional Gallery and KickArts Contemporary Arts Cairns amongst others. I am a Founder, past Chairperson and previous Deputy Director at KickArts. I have a Masters from Queensland University of Technology (QUT) Brisbane. Currently completing a PhD in Intermedia Methodology, Coordinator of the Bachelor of Creative Industries and Lecturer in media arts and design at James Cook University School of Creative Arts. I am a founder and co-director of Bonemap artists group.
