Does USJ have Journal of Bowling Pins?
You may find a citation in a bibliography or a database that doesn't have the full text attached. If you are in a USJ database, you may see a button that says Find at USJ or Full Text Finder. If not, to find a journal using a citation, search the journal through Publication Finder. Here is a shortcut. Use the JOURNAL title (example: Journal of Bowling Pins), NOT the article title (example: DON'T search "Controlled Trial of Nylon vs. Syrlin in Pin Coatings.")
You can also search e-book titles or ISBNs here.
When the citation comes up, you should see either a link to a USJ database or a link for the interlibrary loan request form that will auto-complete with the citation.
Note: There is no Journal of Bowling Pins, at least not yet. I checked.
If USJ does
not
subscribe and you did not see a link to request an interlibrary loan (ILL), search the article title or author in the box below. (This feature is still under construction.)
When the citation comes up, you should see a link for the ILL form that will auto-complete with the citation.
If USJ does NOT subscribe and you did NOT see a link to request an interlibrary loan, click here.

This link sends you to the blank ILL form. You will need to complete it with the citation information (title, author, journal, etc.)

Nomenclature
The evolution of a pharmaceutical compound from the laboratory to the formulary usually involves an eight to fifteen year time period during which a substance may be refered to in the literarure under at least seven different names. To find information on a single compound you may have to look under many names because as new names are assigned no one goes back and provides cross referencing or re-indexes the previous citations.
It is important to realize that you may miss relevant information because it is indexed under a different name.
Drugs first appear in the Chemical and Biochemical Literature. Here they are given Chemical Names which specify their molecular structure, Laboratory Codes, or CAS Registry Numbers. Patents, conference presentations and basic science journals are the prime sources of information at this stage.
Later, when the initial screening is completed, animal studies may be ongoing and the drug undergoes preclinical evaluation of its pharmacological and therapeutic activity as well as its toxicity. Eventually it is certified for human testing, and generic names are assigned. The World Health Organization assigns an INN or International Nonproprietary Name and the United States Pharmacopeia assigns the USAN or United States Adopted Name. These two names may not be the same. You will most likely find this type of information in the Biological Literature, through Conference Presentations, and in Journal Articles.
Eventually a new drug is ready for marketing and the Food and Drug Administration will approve a brand name thru a NDA or New Drug Application or a MAA Market Authorization Application. At this point information is available in the Clinical Literature, Business Sources, and PubMed. The Generic, Brand, or Trade Name may be used. To search completely use them all.
