Honoring Women Physicians and Allies
At the American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA), we proudly recognize the outstanding achievements of women in medicine and our allies through our annual awards. These honors celebrate the invaluable contributions made in areas, such as clinical care, research, women’s health, advocacy, education, leadership, mentorship, and service. AMWA awards and recognition do more than acknowledge excellence—they elevate voices, open doors, and create meaningful opportunities for career advancement and professional fulfillment. By shining a spotlight on those who lead with purpose, we foster a culture of recognition, inspiration, and continued impact across the healthcare landscape.

Initiated in 1969 by Josephine E. Renshaw, M.D., this award is given to a non-physician who has rendered exceptional service to the association. It need not be awarded every year, but only when it is justly deserved. On rare occasions, the award is presented to a physician whose exceptional service to the Association is unrelated to her capacity as a physician.
