2022, the Office of Policy and Efficiency (OPE) announced the Regent approval of a new policy titled, the
CU System Administrative Policy Statement (APS 3005)-Lactation Spaces
This new policy requires the development and implementation of campus lactation policies on all four CU campuses.
Specifically for CU Denver | CU Anschutz, there is a
Lactation Space Policy (Policy 3061)
, as well as additional University guidelines the Office of Equity (OE) administers to support pregnant and parenting students.
Please review each policy to learn more about the University’s endeavors to provide time, space, and reasonable adjustments to the work or education programs to support students and employees who choose to breastfeed and/or express breastmilk.
The CU Denver | CU Anschutz campuses prohibit discrimination on the basis of seventeen protected classes,
which include pregnancy or related conditions.

University Policies and Procedures
page to learn more about the Protected Class Nondiscrimination Policy
The University also provides
Pregnancy and Parenting Guidelines
that set forth the protections that should be provided for pregnant and
parenting students, including those with pregnancy-related conditions. You can also review the
Children in the Workplace and/or Classroom Guidelines
document, which
outlines the very limited circumstances under which it is permissible to bring non-student, minor children to the workplace or classroom.
The U
niversity is required to provide reasonable accommodations for students, staff, and faculty related to disability, religion, creed, and pregnancy or related conditions.

Badging Clearance
Some lactation spaces, primarily on the CU Anschutz campus, use badge access for security purposes. The OE will request badge access on your behalf.
Fill out the Pregnancy and Parenting form to obtain badge access clearance
Please note, the lactation access may permit you to enter the room, but not the space in which the room is located. If you do not have clearance to a specific area in a building, lactation clearance will not grant you access.
EMS: Online Reservation System
EMS is an online system that we use for reserving lactation spaces. You must be a registered EMS user to reserve lactation space at CU Anschutz. If you are not currently an EMS user, you will need to request an account. Please
use the EMS WebApp How To for instructions on how to use EMS
Mamava Pods
Campus Mamava Pods are not included in the EMS Scheduling system. To access the pod code, download the Mamava App on your mobile device. Please
review the Mamava Pod User Guide for any Mamava questions and scheduling needs
To ensure all users have a successful experience with our campus lactation spaces, we ask that everyone abides by the following expectations:
Be considerate of the schedule for lactation spaces by adhering to your scheduled reservation time.
You are responsible for releasing any unneeded reservations for the EMS system, as it takes away other individual’s ability to reserve available spaces.
