This unique program offers students the opportunity to dive into the heart of the TMU experience. Spanning two or three semesters, students complete ten Biblical Studies classes (30 units total) and also experience life in the dorms, participate in chapel, and are engaged full time in the life-on-life discipleship and academic excellence that TMU offers. Upon completion, graduates receive The Master’s Institute Award of Achievement as well as TMU alumni status.

At The Master’s University, we hold the Word of God to be sufficient in all things, including its own interpretation. To best equip our students for their intended fields, ministry or otherwise, we teach them how to approach the Word: through studying Greek and Hebrew as well as the historical and cultural context of each passage. Our students also take classes in theology, biblical counseling, and individual books of Scripture. All of our faculty and staff affirm our full doctrinal statement, which has remained essentially unchanged since our founding.

Students are trained in the art of biblical soul care. This program prepares counselors to meet the needs of people with the all-sufficient resources that God provides, equipping them to bring biblical guidance and hope to sufferers in their local churches. Biblical counseling programs at other schools typically teach an integration model, blending cherry-picked biblical principles with secular psychology. In contrast, we teach our students to understand why Scripture is sufficient to meet the needs of individuals and why Scripture alone offers people true hope.

The Biblical Languages emphasis consists of three years of biblical Greek and one year of Hebrew. While receiving a broad education in Scripture, theology, and Bible backgrounds, these students also dive deeply into the Bible’s original languages, allowing them to engage directly with the original text without the buffer of an English translation. This emphasis is primarily designed for students pursuing seminary or a future in Bible translation. TMU Theatre Arts is a co-curricular program housed in the Communication Department. It is designed to give training and expression in the performing arts alongside any major at the University. Participants and contributors come from all disciplines, dorms, and interests at TMU. Our program offers classes such as Theatre Arts, Theatre Production, and Introduction to Acting, allowing any students to receive formal, credited training in the performing arts.
We instill students with a biblical philosophy of the performing arts while giving them experience in the craft of acting and/or the many aspects of production. We emphasize the process as much as the product, which enables us to have an others-focused theatre program. This mindset pervades everything we do as we strive together to serve with our varied gifts. Many of our graduates have continued on to jobs in the arts industry or teaching, and some have pursued graduate school. We love seeing the various ways they use their skills and become gospel witnesses.

The English major offers a primarily traditional curriculum. The philosophy and practice of the faculty is to emphasize works of recognized and enduring merit in the canon of English, American, and World literature. At the same time, they remain receptive to the inclusion of new or neglected works that are compatible with the English department’s philosophy. Several courses examine critical theory, and faculty members employ a variety of methodologies in literary analysis, while favoring a historical and exegetical approach. Students may choose to obtain a major or a minor in English or work toward qualifying for the California Single Subject Teaching Credential in English. Graduates with an English major have opportunities for careers in a diversity of fields: teaching, missions, journalism, publishing, insurance, law, paralegal work, banking, personnel management, public relations, and government service.

The Computing Systems emphasis is designed to give students a practical introduction to the science of computers. Our goal is to prepare CS students to excel in an increasingly complex technical world while living lives that glorify God. Students with this emphasis study computers both in theory and in practice, while also learning about the impact that computers are having on the world. Through it all, they are equipped with the wisdom to think about and use computer technology in a way that honors Christ. Studying computer science at TMU helps prepare students for careers in a variety of industries.
