AFS Forum 2025 – Summit Report
This year, we gathered in Dakar under the warmhospitality of the Government and people of Senegal, whose spirit of Teranga—generosity and solidarity—made the Africa Food Systems Forum 2025 a memorable milestone in our shared journey. On behalf of the Board and partners of AGRA, I extend our deepest gratitude to H.E. President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and his government for hosting us with such commitment and shared vision.

The theme of this year’s Forum, “Africa’s Youth: Leading Collaboration, Innovation, and Implementation of Agri-Food Systems Transformation”, came alive in every discussion, showcase, and dialogue. More than 2,000 young leaders joined us in Dakar, and many online not as observers, but as drivers of change. They are transforming
agriculture, building enterprises, shaping policies, and demanding urgent action. AFSF
has once again proven itself as a unique platform where youth lead from the front, demonstrating that Africa’s future lies in their creativity, courage, and determination to transform food systems on the continent.

Africa Food Systems (AFS) Forum 2024 Report
The 2024 Africa Food Systems Forum created an opportunity to deliberate on what we can do together to improve African food systems and achieve results at scale. The year’s theme - Innovate, Accelerate, and Scale - calls for harnessing the creativity of Africa’s youth and women to drive economic progress. It is time to gobeyond the traditional meaning of nutrition which only looks at the quantity of what is consumed and instead, adopt a broader view which also takes into account the quality of what we eat, trade, and how it affects our health.

Summit 2023 Brochure
Sustainable food systems are crucial for human life, well-being, and livelihoods and a healthy planet. Today, African food systems face various challenges, including climate change, depletion of natural resources, changing consumption patterns, demographic growth, biodiversity loss, pollution, conflict, migration, and external crises and shocks. These vulnerabilities are compounded by a lack of finance, equipment, technologies, and infrastructure, inadequate digital connectivity for reliable access to markets and services, as well as adequate coordination mechanisms, governance structures, and policies. This results in food and nutrition insecurity, environmental degradation, and loss of biodiversity. Furthermore, food production methods and diets that rely on imported fertilizers and food staples exacerbate these problems.
