Applications for the conference scholarships are now open until 30 April 2026
Who should apply?
[edit]This conference is open to all queer wikimedians and allies who believe in diversity and inclusion, and open knowledge volunteers and academics working on LGBT+ topics.
We encourage the following people to apply:
- Queer Wikimedians and allies leading projects to engage the queer community or to enrich the queer Wikimedia projects content on a local scale.
- Wikimedians working on the language gap in Wikimedia projects related to gender topics. This includes diverse aspects such as health, human rights, education and politics.
- Wikimedians coming from the global south countries or where there is no local Wikimedia Affiliate available to support you.
- Librarians, LGBT+ activists, researchers, and thought leaders working on or creating open knowledge.
- If you think you fit the goals of this conference and not listed here? please do not hesitate to apply or email us.
Eligibility criteria
[edit]Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be 18 years or older at the time of the conference
- Be able to attend the full duration of the conference
- Agree to follow the conference Friendly Space Policy and Scholarship Travel Policy
Priority may be given to individuals who:
[edit]- Are active contributors to Wikimedia projects
- Work on LGBTQ+ topics on Wikimedia platforms
- Organize LGBTQ+ community events, edit-a-thons, or knowledge campaigns
- Come from regions with limited representation in global Wikimedia spaces
- Plan to share knowledge gained with their communities
- Applicants who are not currently active Wikimedians but are working with queer knowledge and archives are encouraged to apply.
Preparing your application
[edit]To ensure a strong application using the online form, you may wish to take some time to prepare answers to the main questions. These questions are:
- Which Wikimedia projects are you involved in right now regarding LGBT+ topics?
- Please describe the extent and nature of your individual online contributions to the Wikimedia movement on LGBTQ+ topics. What kind of contributions are you most proud of?
- Please describe the extent and nature of your individual offline contributions to the Wikimedia movement and/or open knowledge on LGBTQ+ topics.
- What challenges do you see in improving LGBTQ+ representation on Wikimedia platforms?
- Language(s) you contribute to on Wikimedia projects.
- Are you a member of any Wikimedia affiliate, user group, or thematic organization? If yes, which one(s)?
- Do you hold any extended user rights like admin, steward, checkuser rights on Wikimedia projects?
- If you are a newcomer in the Wikimedia movement, what inspired you to join our community? We would like to understand how you got here and what you are looking to gain and contribute in our movement. If you are an experienced contributor, please answer "N/A".
- Why would you like to attend the Queering Wikipedia 2026 Conference?
- How will attending this conference benefit your work in the Wikimedia movement or your community?
- Please describe how you will share the information you learn during the conference with your community.

What scholarship are we offering?
[edit]We have different types of scholarships depending on the applicant's needs.
Scholarships can cover the following expenses:
- Round-trip travel to the conference location (aiming to choose eco-friendly transportation to minimize the conference's carbon footprint)
- Accommodation for the duration of the conference
- Meals during the conference
- Visa support (if required)
- Conference registration
- Access to planned parallel and social events
- Local transportation from the airport
Data security
[edit]In order to ensure security of your data, access to the information you provide by filling this form will be restricted to the Wikimedia Canada staff who comply with a non-disclosure agreement and the scholarship committee members of the Queering Wiki Conference listed on the team page. No third party will have access to any of this information without your explicit agreement.
