What’s included
Requirement areas
Environmental protection and restoration
(i)
Addresses forests, biodiversity, waste management, and energy efficiency
Good agricultural practices
(i)
Promotes soil health, crop rotation, pest management, post-harvest care, and restrictions on GMOs
Focus on worker well-being and labor practices
(i)
Includes safeguards on child labor, gender equality, forced labor, fair contracts, and safe working conditions
Strong farm management systems
(i)
Management commits to promoting gender equality by:
A written statement that is communicated to group members or workers
Appointing a committee (see 1.1.1) responsible for the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of measures that promote gender equality
Ensuring the committee includes at least one management representative with decision-making power and at least one person of each gender.
In groups of smallholders, a responsible person instead of a committee may be appointed.
