Organizational ambidexterity refers to a firm’s ability to pursue both exploitation and exploration orientations. Despite research that suggests ambidexterity is a critical phenomenon in family firms, few studies directly examine the role of ambidexterity over time in family business. This study examines how family firm ambidexterity changes over time as a result of temporal-, firm-, and industry-level factors. We find that family firm ambidexterity is stable over time, punctuated by dramatic changes. We also find that the level of innovation required to compete in an industry is a predictor of changes in exploration versus exploitation over time among family firms.

more
The use of RT-qPCR provides a powerful tool for gene expression studies; however, the proper interpretation of the obtained data is crucially dependent on accurate normalization based on stable reference genes. Recently, strong evidence has been shown indicating that the expression of many commonly used reference genes may vary significantly due to diverse experimental conditions. The isolation of pancreatic islets is a complicated procedure which creates severe mechanical and metabolic stress leading possibly to cellular damage and alteration of gene expression. Despite of this, freshly isolated islets frequently serve as a control in various gene expression and intervention studies. The aim of our study was to determine expression of 16 candidate reference genes and one gene of interest (F3) in isolated rat pancreatic islets during short-term cultivation in order to find a suitable endogenous control for gene expression studies. We compared the expression stability of the most commonly used reference genes and evaluated the reliability of relative and absolute quantification using RT-qPCR during 0-120 hrs after isolation. In freshly isolated islets, the expression of all tested genes was markedly depressed and it increased several times throughout the first 48 hrs of cultivation. We observed significant variability among samples at 0 and 24 hrs but substantial stabilization from 48 hrs onwards. During the first 48 hrs, relative quantification failed to reflect the real changes in respective mRNA concentrations while in the interval 48-120 hrs, the relative expression generally paralleled the results determined by absolute quantification. Thus, our data call into question the suitability of relative quantification for gene expression analysis in pancreatic islets during the first 48 hrs of cultivation, as the results may be significantly affected by unstable expression of reference genes. However, this method could provide reliable information from 48 hrs onwards.

4 4. Ecological Resilience and Biodiversity:Ecological resilience is a fundamental concept that elucidates the capacity of ecosystems to absorb disturbances, adapt to changes, and maintain their essential functions and structures over time. Biodiversity, encompassing the variety and variability of life forms within ecosystems, plays a critical role in bolstering the resilience of these systems. The relationship between ecological resilience and biodiversity is intricate and underscores the significance of maintaining diverse species and genetic resources to ensure the stability and sustainability of ecosystems. a. Ecological Resilience and Biodiversity: Ecological resilience is a fundamental concept that elucidates the capacity of ecosystems to absorb disturbances, adapt to changes, and keep their essential functions and structures over time. Biodiversity, encompassing the variety and variability of life forms within ecosystems, plays a critical role in bolstering the resilience of these systems. The relationship between ecological resilience and biodiversity is intricate and underscores the significance of keeping diverse species and genetic resources to ensure the stability and sustainability of ecosystems (Truchy et al 2015, Beller et al 2019). b. Biodiversity's Contribution to Resilience: Biodiversity enhances ecological resilience by increasing the variety of responses available to ecosystems when faced with disturbances or changes. Diverse species have unique attributes, behaviors, and ecological roles that collectively contribute to the flexibility and adaptability of ecosystems. For instance, a diverse plant community can better withstand disease outbreaks, droughts, and changes in nutrient availability due to the varied strategies and characteristics of varied species (Haahtela, et al 2021). c. Redundancy and Functional Diversity: Biodiversity supplies redundancy, where multiple species perform similar ecological functions. This redundancy acts as an insurance policy -if one species is adversely affected by a disturbance, others can step in to fulfill the same role. Moreover, functional diversity, the range of ecological functions performed by species, ensures that ecosystem processes continue even if certain species are lost. This functional redundancy and diversity are crucial components of resilience, allowing ecosystems to persist and recover from disturbances (Biggs et al 2020). d. Resilience as an Adaptation Strategy:As ecosystems face increasing pressures from human activities and environmental changes, keeping biodiversity becomes a strategic approach to enhance resilience. Biodiversity ensures that ecosystems can adapt and evolve in response to new conditions, minimizing the risk of irreversible shifts to alternative, less desirable states. In the face of global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity-rich systems are better equipped to navigate changing conditions and keep their essential functions (Aurelle, et al 2022). e. Biodiversity Loss and Resilience:Conversely, the loss of biodiversity can erode ecological resilience. Reduced species diversity can lead to the loss of functional redundancy and decreased adaptive capacity, rendering ecosystems more vulnerable to disturbances. The decline of keystone species, which have disproportionately large impacts on ecosystem structure and function, can trigger cascading effects that disrupt entire ecosystems. Biodiversity loss also threatens ecosystem services, ultimately affecting human well-being (McElwee et al 2020). Recent Advances in Biodiversity Research | ISBN 978-93-90146-61-1 7 economic and ecological concerns is a testament to our capacity for adaptation and collaboration, offering hope for a sustainable and flourishing future. The authors would like to express their gratitude to Government college, Nagda (India) for supporting this research initiative. We also acknowledge the invaluable contributions of experts in the field of biodiversity conservation and economics whose insights enriched this study.

more
The traditional scientific method, formalized across centuries of practice, contains three structural vulnerabilities that have produced the modern replication crisis, institutional capture of research, and the systematic suppression of paradigm-challenging findings. These vulnerabilities are: unexamined researcher bias at the point of observation, single-hypothesis design that invites confirmation bias, and peer review captured by funding dependencies, career incentives, and consensus enforcement. This paper proposes the Bias-First Scientific Method, a reformed sequence that addresses all three vulnerabilities through structural changes rather than institutional policy. The method introduces mandatory bias auditing before observation, dual competing hypotheses with dual directional predictions, and adversarial AI review as a prerequisite stage before human peer review. The reform does not require institutional adoption to function. Any individual researcher can implement it immediately, producing work that arrives pre-hardened against the failures the traditional method permits.

Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) is increasingly integrated into academic writing, research workflows, and editorial processes, raising fundamental ethical and governance concerns for scholarly publishing. This paper presents an integrative narrative review and conceptual synthesis of a large interdisciplinary corpus of Scopus-indexed literature on AI in academic research, publishing ethics, and editorial decisionmaking. The study pursues three interrelated aims: to clarify the ethical challenges associated with GenAI across research, peer review, and editorial decision-making; to systematise AI-assisted scholarly practices by distinguishing among integrity-compromising uses, ethically responsible uses, and persistent grey zones in which norms remain contested; and to develop a human-centred, context-sensitive governance perspective to guide authors, reviewers, and editors. The analysis identifies human epistemic responsibility as the central ethical concern, showing that risks arise not from AI itself but from the displacement or obscuring of accountable scholarly judgment. The study contributes a framework for the responsible integration of GenAI into scholarly research and publishing.

F or this project, we relied on a set of mixed methods in order to ap- proach our subject, the 7 train, from several perspectives. Participant observation and distant observation were our modes of access to the fi eld. As we discuss here, observation yields rich data but is not exempt from bias, especially in an environment dominated by nonverbal communication, as is the subway. To complement this method we also conducted about thirty interviews with riders; twenty-fi ve interviews with on-the-ground subway workers, both Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) employees and others (such as vendors and buskers); and fourteen institutional interviews with individuals working in jobs related to the subway. We also used quantitative data from the U.S. Census, to learn more about the neighborhoods along the line, and from the MTA, for information about ridership trends. Police data were not reliable, as the Transit Bureau does not make its records public, and our freedom of information requests were not granted. In addition to these traditional methods, we used three more innovative techniques that we thought were well adapted to our fi eld. Twenty-one walking, or go-along, interviews helped us determine what riders actually do when they take the subway, rather than what they think they do when they are interviewed in other locations, such as their home. Th e subway diaries kept by twelve high school students gave us a unique perspective on Now, the ethnographic task has sometimes been designated "mere" description. A new generation of ethnographers rejects the "mere," and sees in the formulation of an adequate ethnographic description a truly theoretical task, the development of a theory adequate to a particular case. Inference, hypothesis, and prediction are equally involved in accounting for a body of behavior, whether the universe is all communities or one.

Introduction to my new book. Summary: The Genealogy of Genealogy: Nietzsche, Foucault, and the Coils of Critical History offers a bold and timely reassessment of one of the most influential methods in the contemporary humanities.
Turning genealogy back on itself, Jason Ānanda Josephson Storm investigates how it became a dominant paradigm for doing history—and what it means that scholars now routinely historicize everything but their own tools.
Blending intellectual history with philosophical analysis, the book offers fresh readings of Nietzsche, Deleuze, and Foucault, situating them in their historical contexts while challenging familiar narratives about their relationships to theory, method, and critique. It also charts the intertwined development of history and philosophy as academic disciplines, reconstructing genealogy’s surprising entanglements with eugenics, racial essentialism, and power. A method often wielded to criticize authority, Storm shows, has long carried unexamined legacies of its own.
Yet this is more than a critical project—it is a philosophical reckoning with the limits of historiography itself. As genealogy has hardened into a default genre of scholarly suspicion, The Genealogy of Genealogy calls for rethinking its epistemic foundations and political stakes. It also recovers a lost possibility: an insurgent, joyful counter-knowledge glimpsed primarily in Foucault’s private writings.  The book thus ultimately opens a path toward alternative historiographies, encouraging scholars to imagine new methods and possibilities.
Provocative, incisive, and deeply interdisciplinary, this is essential reading for anyone working in the humanities or critical social sciences—anyone ready to ask critical history where it came from, what it’s doing, and where it might lead.

The article proposes a conceptual reconstruction of case study research that addresses ambiguities in the literature, clarifies classifications, transcends the quantitative/qualitative dichotomy, and re-evaluates the status of this type of research within contemporary methodological practices. The case study is defined as the holistic investigation of something complex and is presented as a type of research within a typology that employs the research universe as its classification criterion. The article describes what constitutes a case, the criteria for its selection, what a case study entails, and its utility; it also elucidates the relationship between units and subunits of inquiry. The article situates the case study among other types of research, differentiating it from some while identifying it with others. For instance, the article demonstrates that, from a universe-centered perspective, grounded theory studies and experiments constitute explanatory case studies.

The contribution examines topics related to the management, keeping and use of digital documentary resources with specific attention to their ethical dimension. This aspect is analyzed at a general level and specifically with reference to the need for professionals to carefully re-define the organizational models, the platforms planning and activities related to the fruition of digital assets. The author analyses the dynamic complexity of the contemporary digital heritage and the consequences required to professionals in term of high level of knowledge and competences and full respect of guiding principles and scientific methods in each domain. The digital environment implies also flexibility, integration capacity, a permanent exercise of responsibility, a continuous updating of specialized knowledge and an interdisciplinary approach. The success in the qualified mediation between conflicting interests and principles, at the basis of the digital curation and preservation complexities, is strictly connected to the mediators' recognition of the civil value of their function.

more
Feedback is a critical resource to support the development of researchers and the quality of their work. However, many established feedback mechanisms within research rely upon privilege and gatekeeping and are therefore hard to understand and access, particularly to Early Career Researchers (ECRs) and marginalised communities. Facilitated through the Framework for Open and Reproducible Research Training (FORRT) community, a global transdisciplinary survey (n=881) was designed to capture the feedback processes adopted by researchers and map accessible feedback opportunities from across the research cycle. Fifty-two distinct feedback mechanisms were identified, with the majority used throughout the research cycle. Fundamentally, the results suggest the feedback landscape remains marked by structural inequalities, over-reliance on informal networks, and underuse of open and institutional mechanisms. Findings underscore the greatest potential for cultural and structural change: normalising feedback-seeking behaviours, investing in collaborative infrastructures, embedding open research practices, and critically reflecting on current use of artificial intelligence (AI). We can build a more equitable and rigorous research environment by investing in, and diversifying feedback avenues, as well as reinforcing inclusive mentorship and institutional support.

This paper examines whether methodological precedence in applying moderation analysis to strategic management research relies on myths and urban legends, and if doing so affected empirical conclusions, implications for theory development, and practical recommendations. An in‐depth analysis of 69 studies published in the Strategic Management Journal between 2000 and 2014 using moderation analysis finds that strategic management scholars typically rely on statistical myths and urban legends when applying moderation analysis including: (1) interpreting main effects separately from their significant interaction with other variables; (2) failing to report reliability values of interaction terms; and (3) relying on hierarchical approaches that can lead to interpretation errors. Further examples illustrate how these practices could lead researchers to draw incomplete and possibly inaccurate conclusions. Overall, problematic precedents have become the gold standards for testing and interpre...

Method validation is a crucial stage in ensuring the reliability, accuracy, and quality of chemical analysis results. In practice, the implementation of method validation often focuses only on technical procedures, while conceptual understanding regarding validation objectives, validation parameters, and the role of statistics/chemometrics has not been comprehensively understood. This study aims to analyze the influence of understanding method validation concepts on their implementation in chemical analysis. The study employed a quantitative approach using structural equation modeling-partial least squares (SEM-PLS) involving 101 respondents. The research instrument was a questionnaire using a 1-5 Likert scale to measure cognitive variables and method validation implementation. The results showed that all constructs met validity and reliability criteria, and understanding validation objectives, validation parameter functions such as accuracy and precision, and statistical/chemometric understanding influenced the implementation of method validation. This study concludes that improving conceptual understanding plays an important role in supporting the systematic, consistent, and standards-compliant implementation of method validation in chemical analysis activities.

more
Qualitative researchers in information management research often need to evaluate inter-coder reliability (ICR) to test the trustworthiness of their content analysis. A suitable method of evaluating ICR enables researchers to rigorously assess the degree of agreement among two or more independent qualitative coders. This allows researchers to identify mistakes in the content analysis before the codes are used in developing and testing a theory or a measurement model and avoid any associated time, effort and financial cost. Different methods have been proposed, but little guidance is available on which approach to evaluating ICR should be used. In this paper, we review and compare leading ICR methods that are suitable for qualitative information management research. We propose an approach for selecting and using an ICR method, supported by an illustrative example. The five steps in our proposed approach include: selecting an ICR method based on its characteristics and requirements of a project; developing a coding scheme; selecting and training independent coders; calculating the ICR coefficient and resolving discrepancies; and reporting the process of evaluating ICR and its results. Leading information management journals have recognized that information management research needs to focus on understanding and changing human behavior, and the way people use information to engage with knowledge-focused activities. 1 This means that research devoted to understanding and explaining the rich experience of information users is receiving increasing focus. 2 Many information management studies employ qualitative methods such as semi-structured interviews and focus groups with information users, and content analysis of these data is an important part of these studies . In content analysis, data in the transcripts (audio and/or video records of participants' responses converted into text) are typically coded by trained qualitative coders, and these codes can be trusted only after ensuring their reliability . To ensure the reliability of the coding, a method of evaluating Inter-Coder Reliability (ICR) needs to be employed. However, there is currently no agreement, and little guidance for researchers, in selecting and applying ICR methods. Although evaluating ICR is a significant component of content analysis in studies of information management, selecting and using the right method is still a significant challenge for researchers , and "researchers who conduct qualitative research have long faced the challenge of providing appropriate reliability" (Park & Park, 2015, p. 180). Also, information on these methods and the process of using them is diffuse, and frequently obtained from publications in other disciplines, such as health, education and media studies. Nevertheless, reviewers and editors expect an ICR check for qualitative studies. There is a

Breaking the Chains is an ethnographic documentary about the use of physical restraint and confinement of people with mental illness in Indonesia, a practice known as pasung. The film contributes to an understanding of the socio-cultural meanings of pasung, the sets of beliefs and customs that support such practices (including beliefs about mental illness and healing), and the challenges that must be overcome to eradicate this human rights abuse while highlighting the efforts to eradicate this practice at several levels. This article provides a reflection on the author's experiences and motivations for making Breaking the Chains. It also presents an opportunity to reflect upon the use of film as an applied, public and activist research methodology and the limits and possibilities presented by relying on film-documentary as a ‘generator’ of ethnographic knowledge.

Physical effects caused by thermal environment, that may vary from cold, moderate to more severe conditions, adversely affect health and safety and may also affect productivity and workers’ attention. This paper aims to provide a brief review concerning the influence of thermal environment on productivity in sedentary activities, through the presentation of the research lines and relevant studies in this field. The study was conducted through a systematic review, focused on a research question and according to adequate keywords. Based on content analysis of selected literature it appears that differences in temperature and humidity, whatever their source, may cause changes in the performance of workers at various levels, including productivity, while being detrimental to the health and safety of workers. Thermoregulation is an essential parameter, amid the ones requiring monitorization, depending on individual factors. In this study, other two topics are highlighted as fundamental t...

Participatory action research (PAR) investigates issues through collaboration and cooperation between academics and non-academic community members. Recently, awareness of such approaches has increased as the need for transformative research and contribution to social goods has become clear. However, participatory methods have been deployed unevenly within the Humanities and Social Sciences and opportunities for engagement have been explored unevenly. This article seeks to assist colleagues in teaching PAR methods by reflecting upon our practice of working with Early Career Researchers (ECRs) to identify, explore and deploy participatory methods in ways that foster genuine social change and meaningful research trajectories.

This paper examines the Old Norse noun víking within its derivational ecology, arguing that its morphology, syntax, and semantic behavior align with a productive activity-participant system inherited within Germanic. Although no independently attested verb corresponds directly to víking , the noun behaves structurally as an activity term embedded in periphrastic constructions such as fara í víkingu ("to go on an expedition"). Rather than treating this derivational asymmetry as an anomaly, the study approaches it as diagnostic. The analysis demonstrates that víking functions as a processual activity noun whose formation is structurally compatible with inherited Germanic verb-action-agent patterns. The argument does not depend upon reconstructing a specific lost verb. Instead, it shows that the lexical system itself permits either verbal ancestry or activity-based lexicalization arising from communicative necessity. The explanation advanced is therefore structural rather than reconstructive.

Quality control is a key driver in achieving manufacturing excellence through operational efficiency, product reliability, and market competitiveness. This study investigates the impact of quality control on the performance of manufacturing firms, with a specific focus on Coca-Cola Plc in Ikeja, Lagos State Nigeria. The primary objective is to evaluate how quality control dimensions such as quality control techniques, continuous quality improvement practices and physical inspection influence key manufacturing performance indicators such as customer satisfaction, product quality, and resource management. The study adopted a descriptive and mixed method research design within a quantitative framework, utilizing both primary and secondary data sources. Data were collected using structured questionnaires, analyzed with descriptive and inferential statistics. The sample size of 306 was determined using Yamane's formula (1967) from a staff population of 1,300. A stratified random sampling techniques and cross sectional was employed to distribute 306 questionnaires representing the sample size to a staff population of 1,300 across various departments. Of these, 300 responses were validly completed and returned, representing a 98.04% response rate. To ensure the reliability and validity of the research instrument, a pilot study which is a preliminary small-scale investigation undertaken prior to the major study to evaluate feasibility was conducted. Internal consistency was confirmed using Cronbach's Alpha, yielding values of 0.813, 0.749, and 0.721, all within acceptable thresholds. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS software, including Pearson correlation coefficient (r), T-tests, and bar charts. The calculated correlation coefficients (r) which are 0.8576, 0.8396, and 0.8171 demonstrated strong positive relationships, and hypotheses were tested at a 5% (0.05) level of significance to examine the relationships between Quality Control and Performance of the Manufacturing Firms. Based on the findings of this research study, it was revealed that robust quality control positively and significantly improves customer satisfaction, ensure the production of high quality products, and reduce wastage of resources in the manufacturing process. It was therefore recommended that Coca-Cola Plc and similar manufacturing firms should continuously strengthen and invest in advanced quality control practices, promote continuous improvement practices, prioritize and expand effective physical inspection processes to maintain operational efficiency and competitiveness, invest in technology and automation, implement regular training and skill development programs for employees to ensure that all employees, from line workers to managers, are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to maintain and improve quality standards and to integrate sustainability into its quality control practices.

This paper challenges the "God-of-the-gaps" label often applied to Shroud of Turin research by arguing that the epistemic "gaps" actually reside within the Forgery Hypothesis. By evaluating the Shroud as a physical dataset rather than a theological mystery, it is demonstrated that no period-plausible medieval method, nor any modern replication attempt, has successfully accounted for the object’s totality of physical characteristics, including its 3D-encoded data and sub-micron superficiality. When a hypothesis consistently fails its own predictive tests despite superior modern technology, it ceases to be a viable null hypothesis. I conclude that the "underperformance" of the forgery narrative constitutes positive evidence for authenticity, shifting the burden of proof back to the skeptic to provide a coherent material account of the whole.

This entry addresses an underexplored dimension of reflexive thematic analysis (RTA): its potential for engaging with nonlinguistic materials such as images, sounds, and audiovisual data. While thematic analysis-and RTA in particular-has become one of the most widely used qualitative analytic approaches in psychology and the social sciences, most empirical applications to date have remained focused on verbal and textual materials. This predominance of language raises both methodological and epistemological questions regarding what counts as analyzable meaning within thematic inquiry. The entry introduces the origins, core principles, and main applications of thematic analysis, with particular attention to the reflexive orientation developed by Braun and Clarke. It then examines ongoing debates concerning theme construction, highlighting how representational assumptions and a residual Cartesian dualism-privileging mental representation and discu rsive meaning-may constrain the analytic engagement with affective, embodied, and material dimensions of experience. Drawing on Spinoza's monist philosophy, the entry explores emerging possibilities for rethinking thematic construction beyond language, emphasizing affect, embodiment, and materiality as central to meaning-making. Without discarding the strengths of RTA, it outlines initial orientations and considerations for engaging thematically with nonlinguistic data. Overall, the entry aims to contribute to a more inclusive and sensorially attuned qual itative methodology, capable of engaging with the richness of human and more-than-human experiences ac ross multiple modalities.

Planning research should rely on empirical evidence and on how knowledge is structured, cited, and contextualized. This paper introduces the Historically Grounded Bibliography (HGB) as a heuristic model, which redefines bibliographic analysis as a dynamic methodological tool rather than a static list of references. The HGB model is built on a scoping review of three analytical principles-Interpretation, Context, and Lineage-that uncover interconnections and historical dependencies in planning research. The model's construct is developed into a procedural tool encompassing six steps and twelve actionable procedures. For example, this manuscript used the HGB model, presenting steps and actions for constructing a bibliography. Our results confirmed that the HGB model enhances the reliability and interpretive capacity of bibliographic inquiry. This heuristic model positions bibliography in planning research as a methodological bridge between qualitative understanding and data-driven research, thereby helping select a reliable list of references.

Planning research encounters an epistemological paradox: Although the field increasingly requires flexible, diverse, and adaptive forms of knowledge to address complex urban challenges, its primary evaluation mechanism—peer review in scholarly journals—remains constrained by restrictive gatekeeping practices. Drawing on our experience as authors and reviewers, we highlight three pressing debates: epistemic complexity, disciplinary silos in the peer review process, and societal relevance. These debates reflect scholarly standards meant to promote knowledge exchange, but often become sites of exclusion. We propose reimagining peer review in planning research journals as epistemic stewardship, integrating gatekeeping with critique in a dialogic, pluralistic practice. Informed by debates between critical realism and antirealism, we outline three pathways forward: diversifying stewards, reforming supportive feedback, and fostering a culture of reviewer training.

more
Given the historical intrigue devoted to the study of Greek and Roman antiquity, it comes as no surprise that a central contributor to this investigation-the discipline of classical archaeology-attracts a wealth of scholarly attention. Zooarchaeological remains certainly factor among the host of material categories available to classical archaeologists, but not until more recent times, arguably since the rise of paleoeconomic and processual theoretical foci in general archaeological scholarship in the 1970s and 1980s, has deeper attention surfaced as regards method and practice of zooarchaeological work in classical archaeology (MacKinnon 2007). Agendas have developed tremendously since that time, to the point where collection and reporting of the full range of biological, ecological, and cultural data available from investigations of faunal remains at ancient sites are increasingly commonplace. These have in turn fueled great initiatives to integrate zooarchaeological results more widely in the construction of broader syntheses about animals in Greek and Roman antiquity. At one level, such momentum has certainly affected the current quantity of available faunal data, which are themselves drawn from an equally impressive registry of ancient sites. Simultaneously, however, the richness of this ever-increasing faunal record is intensified by incorporation of the vast amounts of cognate evidence from ancient textual, historical, artistic, and archaeological sources that are available to classical archaeologists, although not always integrated as such. Zooarchaeologists investigating Greco-Roman antiquity are certainly privileged with multifarious lines of evidence to explore. Drawing upon the potential of this interdisciplinary framework, nevertheless, brings both successes and challenges. This chapter reviews the relationship of zooarchaeology to the broader discipline of

This study investigated the common causes, the effects and effective control measures of divorce among couples in the 21 st century. The study was carried out in two phases with three specific objectives. A descriptive survey design was used in carrying out the survey. The sample size for the causes of divorce in this study consisted of 44 married men, 50 married women, 67 single men, 62 single women and 15 people who are in a relationship. A sample size of 100 respondents was selected for the effects and effective control measures in solving the divorce trend. The instruments employed were self-designed questionnaires titled '' Causes of divorce in the 21 st century' and 'Effects of divorce and strategies for effective control of divorce''. Frequency counts and percentages were used to analyze the demographic data while mean scores and standard deviations were used to answer the research questions. The study revealed that the respondents in Rayfield see infidelity, unmet emotional needs, wrong selection of spouse, sexual incompatibility, poverty, among other factors as major causes of divorce. The majority of the respondents don't see extreme sexual orientation, cultural difference, large age difference and religion as grounds for divorce. Regarding the issues of the effects of divorce carried out using 100 respondents, the majority saw social insecurity, child upbringing challenges, juvenile challenges, physical assault and life threat, escalating social vices among others as likely effects of divorce. Renewal of marriage vows, defining positions of inlaws early in marriage, establishing joint family accounts were agreed upon as effective strategies in handling this trend.

In an increasingly algorithm-driven digital landscape, personalization systems are often praised as almost magical entities capable of "knowing us better than we know ourselves". This study takes TikTok as a privileged object of investigation to explore how users engage with these algorithms that seek to "know" them. Adopting a qualitative, empirical approach, we conducted 20 semi-structured interviews with TikTok users in Brazil to explore their everyday experiences, perceptions, and imaginations around algorithmic recommendations. We argue that TikTok’s algorithm-centered infrastructure shapes a unique user experience, where navigating the platform is essentially about engaging in a relationship with the algorithm itself. Our participants not only demonstrated a high algorithmic awareness but developed informal theories and strategies to “train” their systems in an effort to refine recommendation accuracy. As these users experienced increasingly personalized content — deeply attuned to their emotions and personal experiences — some expressed a sense of algorithmic intimacy. Through their clicks, likes, searches, and interactions, they felt as if “sharing a secret with the algorithm”, revealing personal, sensitive, and sometimes even embarrassing preferences. In this preliminary analysis, we discuss how TikTok’s “For You” model fosters a new form of intimacy mediated by algorithms, data collection, and commercial interests. While the transformation of intimacy is not a new topic in internet studies, this paper shifts the focus from self-exposure on social media to the cultivation of an intimate relationship between users and algorithms, offering new insights into the affective and subjective dimensions of algorithmic personalization.

This paper provides a detailed explanation of the activity-based costing method, which is a precise approach for determining and allocating costs in final products. Firms typically do not implement the activity-based costing method due to the need for specialised training and increased fees. Consequently, many companies opt not to utilise this method for product costing. The study addressed the challenges encountered during the implementation of the activity-based costing method. The study also outlines the necessary steps for a fair implementation and highlights the advantages of this method over the traditional method of product costing. Furthermore, it explores how the enterprise's expansion reveals the absorption of certain costs not allocated to products.

To write Native North American art history is to dance with difficult archives. Most of our primary sources were authored by white artists, patrons, collectors, curators, instructors, anthropologists, and government agents. Accordingly, we arrive in the archive determined to root out the damaging ideologies of even the most well-intentioned authors. While this preoccupation sheds light on colonialism and its attendant power structures, it does not necessarily bring us closer to the archive’s obfuscated Indigenous subjects. An exclusively critical orientation can lead us to overlook subtler clues—affective, sensorial—that register the impacts of Native art and artists on their social and ecological milieus.
This essay offers an alternative approach, proposing that we read settler archives relationally. By this I mean studying white authors’ recorded responses to Native art and artists as potential indices of Indigenous world making under conditions of colonial duress. Here I attempt to learn from Native approaches to agency and ethics that assess human accomplishments according to their effects on others. Has one behaved as a good relative? Has one furthered the chain of reciprocity linking humans to one another, to other beings, and to the entire universe? Has one contributed to beauty, harmony, health, and balance in the world? This approach prioritizes Native artists’ rights and responsibilities to nurture an orderly cosmos. I test this relational method using the papers of Olive Rush (1873–1966) at the Archives of American Art.

Preface A truism of the biological and social studies is that topics such as "the methodology of scientific research" or "epistemology" or "philosophy of science" are to be met with a groan. Students avoid such courses until forced to take them at the last minute, and most professors and researchers don't want to "waste their time" either teaching them or studying the issues they present. The faculty assume they are wasting their time because the students won't learn or remember anything, and the students hate mathematics and don't want to memorize more formulas (which, unfortunately, is almost all such courses involve) just to pass another course. Such "high falutin'" issues are regarded either as detached entirely from day-today research, or as involving mere rituals one must go through to look "scientific," which means they are only something to pay lip service to in order to publish in prestigious journals. The usual attitude is that we are doing just fine on our own, happily adding our well-designed research to a "significant" body of knowledge that is steadily accumulating, and our students are doing just fine doing what we tell them to do. So writing a book on methodology and epistemology is to be avoided, exceeded in its avoidance only by the onerous tasks of reading such a book, or teaching its contents. If you must do it,
