Likewise, our professors encourage and embrace research to broaden and deepen your educational experience. Faculty-Student Research Program plus or minus A significant part of your educational experience can occur through the "hands-on" inquiry that takes place by participating in research and other creative projects with faculty mentors through the Faculty/Student Research Program. Other times, the research and intellectual inquiry can occur through your initiative as part of upper-level research courses in your major, or as the result of being involved in the University Honors Program. Regardless, research substantially broadens and deepens your educational experience. Summer Research Fellowships plus or minus At Scranton, school is never really out for summer. In fact, Summer Research Fellowships are awarded to undergraduate research scholars who have been nominated by faculty mentors for these stipends, which allow them to expand their scholarly work and to focus on their research over the summer months. Acceptance into the program is based on your academic achievement and the quality of your research proposal. Annual Celebration of Scholars plus or minus In addition to supporting faculty research efforts, the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs also supports student research activities. In early May of each year, we sponsor the Annual Celebration of Student Scholars. This event features displays of the outcomes of student research efforts, as well as a reception at which we celebrate these accomplishments. Along with such internal activities, we encourage you to participate in external research conferences. National Conference on Undergraduate Research plus or minus Over the years, a number of our students have attended and presented posters or papers at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research, and many have presented papers with professors at regional and national professional conferences. The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs has funds available for students to help offset the costs of attending such conferences.
