The paradigm shift in doctor-patient communication patterns that has taken place in recent decade... more The paradigm shift in doctor-patient communication patterns that has taken place in recent decades has led to more engaging and empowering communicative models that highlight the importance of clinical communication. In this context, informed consent (IC) plays a fundamental role as it helps democratize clinical communication and ensures the patient's autonomy and right to information. This article examines the communicative process associated with IC by means of a critical, comparative analysis of the Spanish legislative framework, both at national and regional level, to determine to what extent current legal provisions regulate the complex communication process involved in giving consent, both as an act of communication and as a document proving the patient's consent. The results indicate that Spanish legislation devotes more attention to IC as a communicative process than to the document itself, thus failing to address fundamental aspects related to its content and form. It is also observed that the patient's voice tends to be somewhat neglected (consultation of doubts, expression of concerns, etc.). Together with the challenge posed by the need for adequacy and personalization of the information, the legibility and comprehensibility of the IC forms as well as aspects related to its delivery protocol, this casts some doubt on the efficacy of IC as a tool for clinical communication.

En un contexto profesional marcado por el cambio, la empleabilidad de los egresados universitario... more En un contexto profesional marcado por el cambio, la empleabilidad de los egresados universitarios se ha convertido en un concepto contencioso en el que convergen múltiples microinterpretaciones sobre el papel de la universidad y las expectativas del mercado. En el caso de los grados de Traducción e Interpretación en España, objeto de este artículo, no son pocos los que, en sus sucesivas reformas, han optado por introducir prácticas profesionales y asignaturas centradas en el desarrollo de competencias profesionales. El artículo que presentamos profundiza en dicha formación a través de un mapeado de los distintos planes de estudio de grado. Para ello, planteamos un análisis temático de las guías docentes de las asignaturas arriba mencionadas, de las que se analizaron los siguientes elementos: presencia y representatividad en los planes de estudio; naturaleza y características (carácter obligatorio u optativo, número de créditos, curso en que se imparten); contenido y alcance curricular (en el caso de las prácticas, tipología de empresa y naturaleza de las prácticas; en el caso de las asignaturas socioprofesionales, contenidos que se cubren). Los resultados muestran una alta presencia de ambas asignaturas, aunque con relativamente poca obligatoriedad. Las prácticas curriculares se desarrollan mayoritariamente en academias de idiomas o centros concertados de enseñanza; agencias de traducción y traductores autónomos y organizaciones no gubernamentales y otras asociaciones. Por lo que respecta a las asignaturas de corte profesional, entre sus contenidos predominan los aspectos deontológicos y éticos de la traducción, el análisis y las previsiones de mercado y la elaboración de presupuestos y facturas.

the aim of establishing future fields of research for the professional practice of the
latter. The paper begins with a reflection on current debates on (de)globalisation as
a multidimensional set of social processes that create, multiply, unfold and intensify social exchanges and interdependencies on a global scale, with its lights and shadows.
A key element in these processes is legal translation, which is framed at the intersection
between language and law. After a reflection on the concept of polycrisis in
the current world order, our focus is on the impact of globalisation on languages and
translation at a time of disruptive technological transformations. Finally, we describe
the impact that globalisation and the technological changes of recent years have had
on law and legal translation, and we draw a number of conclusions, including the
need to train legal translators with new profiles that respond to the communication
needs of law as a globalised phenomenon

El presente trabajo explora la relación entre la globalización y la traducción jurídica, con el p... more El presente trabajo explora la relación entre la globalización y la traducción jurídica, con el propósito de establecer futuros campos de investigación para la práctica profesional de esta especialidad de traducción y su docencia. Se inicia con una reflexión sobre los debates actuales sobre la (des)globalización como conjunto multidimensional de procesos sociales que crea, multiplica, despliega e intensifica intercambios e interdependencias sociales a escala mundial, con sus luces y sus sombras. Un elemento clave en estos procesos es la traducción jurídica, que se encuadra en la intersección entre la lengua y el derecho. Tras una reflexión sobre el concepto de policrisis en el nuevo orden mundial, nuestros siguientes focos de atención serán el impacto de la globalización sobre las lenguas y la traducción en un momento de profunda transformación tecnológica. Finalmente, se describirá el impacto que la globalización y los cambios tecnológicos de los últimos años han tenido para el derecho y para la traducción jurídica y se apuntarán algunas conclusiones, entre las que destaca la necesidad de formar traductores jurídicos con nuevos perfiles, que respondan a las necesidades de comunicación del derecho como fenómeno globalizado.

Framed within the current accountability policies in higher education, under the strains of globa... more Framed within the current accountability policies in higher education, under the strains of global competition and the internationalization of universities worldwide, this article examines effective teaching as a pillar of teaching quality in higher education among legal translation lecturers. By linking certain teaching and learning styles to the different dimensions of effective teaching (instructional, organizational, and emotional), the teaching profile of legal translation lecturers in Spain at undergraduate level is analyzed. In addition, student-centered teaching approaches are connected to the use of classroom strategies and methodological resources that characterize effective teaching. The findings of this study, obtained through the distribution of the tamufq questionnaire (Teaching and Assessment Methodology of University Faculty Questionnaire) among legal translation lecturers at undergraduate level in Spain, suggest that those lecturers who adopt a post-positivist approach in their classroom display a greater variety of teaching behaviors and strategies associated with both effective curriculum implementation and higher quality teaching than those who are closer to traditional, positivist approaches. These findings may be particularly useful in the design and implementation of continuous professional development courses and pedagogical training of lecturers.
El aprendizaje de la traducción en el seno del EEES: una justificación de la metodología de aula
espanolLos grados en Traduccion e Interpretacion en Espana, dada su vocacion fuertemente vinculad... more espanolLos grados en Traduccion e Interpretacion en Espana, dada su vocacion fuertemente vinculada a la practica profesional, han sabido adaptarse de forma relativamente fluida al cambio de paradigma educativo que ha desplegado el EEES, incorporando distintos elementos de corte postpositivista en su metodologia de ensenanza y aprendizaje. El articulo que presentamos reflexiona sobre las exigencias metodologicas que siguen a dicho cambio de paradigma, entre los que se encuentran el papel del docente en el aula de traduccion, el papel del alumnado, o el desarrollo de las diferentes competencias marcadas, entre otros, por el Libro Blanco del titulo en Traduccion e Interpretacion. Partiendo de una justificacion epistemologica, se abordan conceptos clave como la naturaleza situada del aprendizaje y de la cognicion humana, asi como la motivacion pedagogica que apuntala el aprendizaje significativo y situado que aboga el EEES. El uso de materiales autenticos, el aprendizaje basado en proyectos y tareas, la colaboracion en el aula (y fuera de ella), la sistematizacion creciente en los procesos de traduccion o el impacto de las politicas universitarias basadas en la empleabilidad se encuentran entre las estrategias, apuntes y exigencias metodologicas que hoy en dia apuntalan la socializacion de futuros traductores en Espana. EnglishThe degrees in Translation and Interpreting in Spain, given their practice-oriented nature, have been able to adjust to the paradigm shift fostered by EHEA, incorporating a number of post-positivist elements in their classroom methodology. The article below analyses the methodological challenges stemming from the said paradigm shift, namely the role of lecturers and students in the translation classroom, the acquisition of the relevant competences set, among others, by the White Paper of the Degrees in Translation and Interpreting in Spain, etc. The situated nature of knowledge and human cognition are analysed from an epistemological perspective, together with the pedagogic rationale behind situated, meaningful learning. The use of authentic materials, project-based and task-based learning, collaboration in (and outside) the translation classroom, the increasing systematisation of translation processes or the impact of university policies based on employability are among the strategies, remarks and requirements scaffolding the socialisation process of future translators in Spain.

This paper presents a classroom experience regarding the use of Wikipedia in a teaching innovatio... more This paper presents a classroom experience regarding the use of Wikipedia in a teaching innovation project carried out between Jaume I University and Wikimedia Spain. Framed in the current post-postivist climate within the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), Wikipedia will be presented as an inter-disciplinary tool with a relevant number of classroom applications, reflecting how meaningful learning experiences based on collaborative work and authentic project-based tasks lead to better understanding and higher levels of motivation among the students. In the particular case of translation education, it will be argued that using Wikipedia in the course of the reverse translation modules allows the students to gain a deeper insight of its linguistic and discursive structures, as well as the critical/exegetic skills they need in order to assess the kind of texts with which they are commissioned, and the special discursive techniques associated to the translation task.

A pesar de la percepción generalizada de la hostilidad del mundo del videojuego hacia la comunida... more A pesar de la percepción generalizada de la hostilidad del mundo del videojuego hacia la comunidad queer, apuntalada muchas veces por la propia industria a través de su aparato tecnológico, comercial y cultural, ambos comparten, en esencia, una serie de rasgos característicos que vinculan la experiencia de las personas no heteronormativas a las dinámicas, lógicas y experiencias que plantea el videojuego. Más allá de análisis superficiales basados exclusivamente en la representación, el estudio en profundidad de los aspectos narratológicos y lúdicos del videojuego nos permite, desde una perspectiva queer, situarnos fuera de las fronteras hegemónicas de la industria y buscar modos diferentes de ser y estar que resuenen en la comunidad queer. El artículo que presentamos parte de una "lectura demasiado atenta" del videojuego estadounidense Undertale y busca la identificación de aquellos patrones contrahegemónicos que nos permitan localizar, tanto en el sentido de hallar como en el de traducir, el reflejo de tantas manifestaciones socialmente invalidadas de la experiencia queer. Esta reflexión, que va más allá de la representación, ya que nos permite incluso entender el videojuego como una plataforma queer, pretende, al tiempo, enfatizar la importancia en los procesos de localización de aquellas cuestiones sexuales y de género que trascienden el contenido explícito de los videojuegos.

Framing the translation activity under Foucaultian power dynamics, students are exposed to the social and political contradictions in the mainstream discourses, thus fostering the self-perception of translators as active, emancipated inter-linguistic agents aware of power asymmetries. The project, based on collaborative premises, engages students in social action and applies their translation skills to their surrounding community. Divided in two phases, students work on the translation of the website of a local LGBT+ organization while, in parallel, they reflect on the representation of non-binary identities, together with the translation challenges and ethical concerns they pose.

This responds not only to the current emerging models of economic and social growth but also to an underlying epistemological shift regarding the very nature and characteristics of Education. This article provides the epistemological foundation of the said shift, arguing, from a post-positivist perspective, how authentic experiential work in the classroom may contribute to the progressive socialisation of students into their respective communities of practice, thus bridging the gap between the labour market and the education institutions.

At the same time, it has brought the cultural component closer, enriching the overall picture for students when learning a foreign language. This highlights the need for students to develop solid crosscultural skills regarding the meaning negotiation processes underlying the discursive practices of their respective L2 communities. Only by acknowledging the referential, semiological nature of language and understanding cultural practices in situated terms may students be truly socialized in their L2. This study explores the perception of students regarding wiki-based collaborative writing as a resource in the L2 classroom while paying special attention to the treatment of culture specific elements that may hinder effective cross-cultural communication in their L2.
