Science-led conservation of the Sargasso Sea
The Sargasso Sea Commission is currently implementing two projects to strengthen the stewardship of the Sargasso Sea, the 'SARGADOM' project, funded by the French Facility for Global Environment, and the Common Oceans Programme Sargasso Sea project, funded by the Global Environment Facility.
The aim of these projects is to create a socio-ecosystem diagnostic analysis (SEDA) for the Sargasso Sea, laying out its ecological and economic importance, as well as the threats it faces. This will be the basis for a strategic action programme (SAP) for the area's conservation, which will be agreed by Sargasso Sea stakeholders.
