Schema Bib Extend Community Group
The mission of this group is to discuss and prepare proposal(s) for extending Schema.org schemas for the improved representation of bibliographic information markup and sharing. The group will seek consensus around, and support for, proposal(s) to the W3C WebSchemas Group. This Community Group will not, itself, produce technical specifications.
Note: Community Groups are proposed and run by the community. Although W3C hosts these conversations, the groups do not necessarily represent the views of the W3C Membership or staff.

Bibex Entry for Poetry
I’m not sure if I should be making blog posts in this group, so someone stop me if I’m wrong.
We need to come up with a way for formatting Poems and Poetry in Schema. Poetry as a physical entity can be a genre of a book and can inherit many of Book’s properties, so I don’t think there’s an issue there. Poem on the other hand seems to want to be a child of CreativeWork unto itself.
However in this e-mail chain a TextObject was proposed, which is also another good idea. Either TextObject or Poem would have to include (and this is only for the sake of poetry), form (villanelle, sonnet, etc), school or genre (Modernist, Confessional, New Formalist, Slam), line count, and the rest of the properties could be taken from CreativeWork: author, language, translation, etc, and some from AudioObject: a recording, and some from Periodical: publish date.
Of the terms form and school, I think form is really the only one that has to be included for poetry’s sake. School (or mode, even) could be called genre, but if we make Poetry a genre of Book then we’re going to have sub-genres (which is ok, I guess).
If we were to extend this TextObject to prose, we would could extend to creative non-fiction, flash-fiction, essay, etc, through the use of genre (or mode).
Anyway these are ideas, I warmly welcome suggestions on ways to fit this into Bibex. I’m new to all of this.

The Group is engaged with proposing an extension to Schema.org – ‘bib.schema.org‘. Details of the first and subsequent proposals can be found on the Wiki.
bib.schema.org is one of the first extension proposals to be submitted to the core Schema.org Group following the release of the extension mechanism in Schema.org V2.0.
Recipes and Guidelines
A Recipes and Guidelines section is being added to the Group Wiki.
Check it out for an introduction to using Schema.org mark up in general, but with an emphasis on bibliographic data. Included are examples for typical bibliographic situations such as library holdings and citations.
