PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
• Live your Scottish dreams in Glasgow, a city known for the kindness, friendliness, and sense of humor of its people. Glasgow provides the perfect balance of human-made and natural beauty, with historic castles and the majestic Highlands at your fingertips.
• Recognized (twice!) as the University of the Year and the Business School of the Year for the whole U.K., Strathclyde offers AACSB and EQUIS accredited programs and an expansive course catalogue to support students from any academic program.
• You never have to leave campus - everything you need is right within reach! Facilities include a state-of-the-art library, a brand-new student union, a 25-meter swimming pool, dance studios, restaurants, and many student societies and clubs.
• Studying at Strathclyde offers you the chance to explore the abundance of high street stores, adorable secondhand shops, restaurants representing every type of cuisine, clubs, theatres, and museums (most of which offer free admission). With a different festival coming to town every month of the year (including Celtic Connections, Glasgow Film Festival, and the World Piping Championship), Glasgow is never short on things to do.
LIFE ABROAD
Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland and has been voted the friendliest city in the world. Enjoy listening to the bagpipe street performers on Buchanan Street or pop into a pub in Finneston, one of Glasgow’s most trendy neighborhoods.
LIVE
On campus, you'll have a private room in a shared apartment with a full kitchen and two bathrooms. Since you’ll be living in the center of things, you’ll be able to get to class in under 10 minutes. Each building organizes social activities and offers 24/7 security. By living on campus, you’ll also have access to Strathclyde’s state-of-the-art sports facilities which include a six-lane, 25-meter swimming pool complete with sauna and steam rooms, two sports halls, two squash courts, and a dance studio.
DINE
Food and drink are at the heart of Scottish culture. Dig into piping hot Scottish porridge or indulge in savory haggis with a side of neeps (mashed turnips). If you prefer to make your own food, there are three main supermarkets within walking distance of the campus - Aldi, Tesco, and Morrisons - where you'll find everything you need to whip something up in your shared kitchen.
EXPERIENCE
Experience the iconic Glasgow music scene in one of the numerous cozy record stores or soak up indie rock music at a basement bar over a pint. Join a walking tour to learn the history of the city’s music landscape and the people, places, and performances that helped shape it. There will be no question why Glasgow was named a UNESCO City of Music in 2008—music is the heartbeat of the city! If you’re studying abroad in the spring, you will have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend the Highland Games, an event that includes competitions and activities such as tug o' war, the hammer throw, best-dressed pet competitions, and the most iconic event, the caber toss. If you’re looking for activities and support close to campus, the International Welcome Programme is perfect for preparing you for life in Glasgow! Enjoy tours, quiz nights, karaoke, and other international student events arranged by the university.
EXPLORE
Glasgow is a very walkable city, making it easy to explore on foot. Less than a 10-minute walk from campus is Glasgow Green, one of the oldest parks in the city. It is a wonderful place for a relaxing stroll on one of the rare and ethereal sunny days in Glasgow. To expand your horizons, hop on a bike, subway, train, bus, or airplane – the public transportation opportunities are numerous and easy to use.
THRIVE
There are many people committed to helping you thrive during your time at Strathclyde. There are dedicated teams for different areas, including career services, chaplaincy, disability services, English language support, general information and advice, student counseling services, and more. Also available are well-being programs relating to mindfulness and stress management.
What We Love About the University of Strathclyde
Nestled in the heart of Scotland’s biggest city, the University of Strathclyde is the perfect place to immerse yourself in your studies, particularly if you’re a business major, while experiencing the city’s musical charm. With endless festivals, restaurants, and sights to see, Glasgow offers something for everyone. We also love that the University of Strathclyde is among the top universities in the world whose work is contributing to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). According to Times Higher Education’s (THE) 2024 University Impact rankings, Strathclyde was ranked 25th in the world and 4th in the U.K. (Source:

If a student is coming to Strathclyde for only one semester and does
not

be accepted. Other scores may be accepted on a case-by-case basis.
Learn more here.

Guide to Choosing Classes
Students will choose classes from levels one to three. This equates to 1st year to 3rd year at Strathclyde. Levels two and three classes usually require students to have done some previous study in the subject. Level four classes are not normally available to exchange students unless they have significant prior knowledge in the subject, and if there is sufficient space in the class.
Access to level four classes needs to be approved by the host department.
60% of the classes (modules) should be from the same department or subject area. This department will then serve as the primary host department at Strathclyde during the student’s program abroad. In general, a student may choose classes from a maximum of two different departments.
Other course specific restrictions:
• Chemistry is only able to consider applications for two semesters/full academic year due to the yearlong structure of their classes.
• Computer Science has limited single semester classes available as many of them run over both semesters.
• Psychology is only able to host a limited number of exchange students. Applications will be considered as they are received.
• Upon placement in Architecture, coordinators will reach out with further instructions on how/where to send portfolio.
Other test scores accepted by Strathclyde include:
-Faculty of Science IELTS Score:
6.0 overall with no individual band less than 5.5
-Department of Design, Manufacturing & Engineering Management IELTS:
6.0 overall with no individual band less than 5.5
-Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency:
C2, 176 overall with a minimum of 162 in each component. Validity period of 2 years.
