Questions
Accelerate learning and ensure every student is prepared for success in the next grade level.
The HISD Summer School Program serves PK–12 students enrolled at the end of the school year who have not yet met promotion requirements or need additional support to master key skills. Priority is given to students performing below grade level so support is focused where it is most needed.
The program is designed to help students close learning gaps, strengthen foundational skills, and build confidence. Through targeted, high-quality instruction and additional learning time, students have the opportunity to master essential standards and demonstrate readiness for the next grade.
Summer programming is an extension of the school year and provides a clear path for students to meet promotion standards, complete required coursework, and start the new school year prepared.
HISD’s goal is that all participating students successfully advance to the next grade level and remain on track to graduate with their peers.

Information about confirming attendance and registration will be shared with families in April. Students who are required or recommended to attend will receive a letter from their campus and notification via ParentSquare with next steps. Families may contact their campus with any questions or to confirm participation.
Summer school bus service will follow a hub model. Stops will be pre-generated for each summer school site and communicated with families. Families will need to get their students to a designated site for their campus to receive service.
K-12 students will qualify.
Students who receive transportation as a related service in their IEP will continue to receive service aligned to their accommodations.
Questions for transportation can be sent to:

Special education services will continue during summer school, consistent with each student’s individualized education program (IEP).
Families of students participating in Extended School Year (ESY) services will receive additional information directly from their campus. For questions, families may contact their child’s ESY teacher or campus. Additional support is available through the Special Education Parent Liaisons at (713) 556-7042 or

Meal Service
Breakfast and lunch are provided to all students free of charge at all Summer School sites, as well as all children in the community ages 1-18.

Summer Meals Program
The Summer Meals Program provides meals at no cost to children and teens 18 years old and younger at eligible sites. All the HISD Summer School sites are participating in the Summer Meals Program. Children and teens do not need to attend summer school to be served a breakfast or lunch. Children and teens do not have to apply, register, or provide identification – simply show up at the open site during the meal service times. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) funds the Summer Meals Program and the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) administers the

Dietary Accommodations
HISD is committed to providing nutritious meals for all students, including those with special dietary needs due to medical conditions such as disabilities or allergies.
