Mailing List Etiquette
IRC Channel
The WebM project makes extensive use of email mailing lists and Internet Relay
Chat. Get involved by subscribing and contributing! Improving video on the web
is a diverse undertaking, and we want your help.
WebM Mailing Lists
The WebM mailing lists can be found at the links below. There are searchable
archives available, and you can subscribe through the web interface or by
mailing one of the subscription addresses below.
Wiki
Subscribing to one of
the WebM mailing lists grants you write access to our wiki at
wiki.webmproject.org
which may be used for any reasonable purpose related to WebM or VP8. Contact
webmaster@webmproject.org
with any access-related issues.
List Moderation
Anyone may post. Registration / group membership is not required.
Non-member posts may be held for moderation, to avoid polluting the
archives with
backscatter
(e.g.,
auto-responder away messages). Registered posters will not be moderated, and
can control how they receive messages from each list via their account
settings (none, abridged, digest, all).
webm-discuss
This list is for general discussion of WebM video.

Mailing List Etiquette
The WebM project doesn't have a written etiquette guide, but there are
many examples available
We aspire to some common rules:
Be civil.
Be kind to newcomers.
We prefer that replies be made inline and that you trim any
text not relevant to your reply. However, this it not to be a
point for flaming other users. It's okay to make a top-post
reply to a top-post reply, but try not to mix inline replies
and top-post replies in the same thread. If everyone is replying
inline, you should too, and vice versa. For an explanation,
see this common internet joke:
A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally
read text.
Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing? I like to top-post.
A: Top-posting.
Q: What is the most confusing thing on usenet and in e-mail?
