Overview

Mount Emei is located within the city of Emeishan, Sichuan Province, China. It is one of the four most famous Buddhist mountains in China and is revered as the bodhimanda of Samantabhadra Bodhisattva. The highest peak, Wanfo Summit, has an elevation of 3,099 meters, while the Golden Summit stands at 3,077 meters. In 1996, Mount Emei, together with the Leshan Giant Buddha, was listed by UNESCO as a World Cultural and Natural Heritage site. It is renowned as the "Kingdom of Plants," "Paradise of Animals," and "Museum of Geology."

History and Buddhist Culture

The Buddhist history of Mount Emei can be traced back to the 1st century AD. There are currently about 26 temples on the mountain, among which eight major temples are the most famous. Huazang Temple, located on the Golden Summit, is the core symbol of Buddhist faith on Mount Emei, with its main hall enshrining the golden statue of Samantabhadra of the Ten Directions. As the bodhimanda of Samantabhadra Bodhisattva, Mount Emei has attracted countless pilgrims and tourists for thousands of years.

Ecological Monkey Groups

The mountain also has a dedicated ecological monkey area where visitors can observe these primates up close.

The classic hiking route goes from Baoguo Temple, Fuhu Temple, Qingyin Pavilion, Ninety-Nine Bends, Yuxian Temple, Xixiang Pond, Leidongping, to the Golden Summit, and can be completed over two days.

Mount Emei is not only a treasure trove of natural wonders but also an important symbol of Chinese Buddhist culture. Together with the Leshan Giant Buddha, it forms the most renowned cultural tourism destination in Sichuan, attracting pilgrims and tourists from all over the world each year.
