Overview
Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park, located in Yongding District of Zhangjiajie City, Hunan Province, is the highest peak in Zhangjiajie with a main summit elevation of 1,518.6 meters. Named after the natural wonder Heaven's Gate Cave (Tianmen Dong), it is a National 5A Tourist Attraction receiving over 5 million visitors annually.
The mountain rises approximately 1,300 meters above the urban area and is renowned for its spectacular quartz sandstone peak forest landscape, known as the Soul of Wuling.
Heaven's Gate Cave (Tianmen Dong)
Heaven's Gate Cave is the world's highest natural mountain arch cave at over 1,300 meters above sea level. The cave stands 131.5 meters tall, 57 meters wide, and 60 meters deep, opening north to south. Throughout the year, clouds and mist flow through the opening, creating an ethereal atmosphere.
In 1999, world-class aerobatic pilots flew their aircraft through Heaven's Gate Cave, creating a miracle in aviation history and making Tianmen Mountain famous worldwide.
Tianmen Mountain Cableway
The Tianmen Mountain Cableway is the world's longest high-mountain passenger cableway, stretching 7,455 meters with a one-way journey of approximately 28 minutes. The cableway runs directly from Zhangjiajie city center to the mountain summit, with a vertical elevation difference of 1,279 meters. Riding the cableway offers breathtaking panoramic views of Zhangjiajie's magnificent peak forest.
The cableway features 113 cabins and uses advanced detachable grip technology, representing a remarkable feat of engineering.
Glass Skywalk
The Tianmen Mountain Glass Skywalk spans 60 meters, suspended on a cliff face at approximately 1,430 meters above sea level. Paved with fully transparent glass, it is one of the world's most thrilling viewing platforms. Walking on the glass skywalk, with the abyss below visible through the floor, is an unforgettable experience.
