Overview

Xi'an, known as Chang'an in ancient times, is one of the four great ancient capitals of China, with thirteen dynasties having established their capitals here throughout history. As a renowned historical and cultural city in China, Xi'an boasts numerous precious historical relics and a rich food culture.

The Xi'an Ming City Wall is located in the city center and is the most complete ancient city wall still existing in China. The wall's outline forms a closed rectangle, with a perimeter of 13.74 kilometers, a height of 12 meters, a top width of 12 to 14 meters, and a base width of 15 to 18 meters. The area inside the wall is commonly referred to as the ancient city area, covering 11.32 square kilometers.

Food Recommendations

The Muslim Quarter is Xi'an's most famous food street, gathering various Northwestern-style snacks such as roujiamo (Chinese hamburger), yangrou paomo (lamb soup with bread), liangpi (cold noodles), and guantang bao (soup dumplings). It is recommended to venture deeper into the Muslim Quarter rather than eating on the main street, which is expensive and inauthentic. The small shops in the alleys are the locals' favorites.

Cultural Significance

Xi'an is the starting point of the ancient Silk Road and an important birthplace of Chinese civilization. Although the Terracotta Army of Qin Shi Huang is not within the ancient city, it is about 40 kilometers from the city center and is usually visited on the same trip as the ancient city wall.

The Shaanxi History Museum is a must-visit for understanding Xi'an's thousand-year history; you need to bring your original ID card for entry.
