The Muslim Quarter is Xi'an's most famous food street, gathering various Northwestern-style snacks such as roujiamo (Chinese hamburger), yangrou paomo (lamb soup with bread), liangpi (cold noodles), and guantang bao (soup dumplings). It is recommended to venture deeper into the Muslim Quarter rather than eating on the main street, which is expensive and inauthentic. The small shops in the alleys are the locals' favorites.
Cultural Significance
Xi'an is the starting point of the ancient Silk Road and an important birthplace of Chinese civilization. Although the Terracotta Army of Qin Shi Huang is not within the ancient city, it is about 40 kilometers from the city center and is usually visited on the same trip as the ancient city wall.
