Undergraduate Application Guide
We know that the process of applying to study at university can seem overwhelming at times, with various things to consider. At Buckinghamshire New University, we aim to make this process as simple as possible and are here to support you every step of the way.
Below you can find everything you need to know about applying to BNU.
Before applying to university
Attend an Open Day
Once you’ve narrowed down your options, a great way to find out which place is right for you is to
attend an open day
. You’ll get to find out more about your chosen course and the University, as well as get the chance to chat to tutors and current students, ask any questions that you have and see the local area. Not able to make it to our campus? We offer a number of virtual online events.
eep an eye on our website for more details.
Choose the right course for you
If there’s a particular subject or industry you’re interested in, have a browse through our
undergraduate courses
to see what we offer in that particular field.
It’s also worth having a think about the way you want to study, and at what level you feel comfortable starting off at. We’ve got a range of
higher technical qualifications,
foundation degrees
and
foundation year programmes
available, which might be a good option if you don’t quite meet the requirements or feel prepared for a full degree straight away.
Understand your financial options
Tuition fees are a key matter for all students, and it’s important you are familiar with how to pay for these and your living costs. You’ll find details of our tuition fees on our
individual course pages
and information on student finance in our
fees and funding section
as well as
Student Finance England (SFE)
Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS)
Student Finance Wales (SFW)
and
Student Finance Northern Ireland (SFNI)
You may also be entitled to financial support during your studies, BNU offer a range of scholarships and bursaries to make sure that everyone can reach their potential. Take a look at how we can help on our dedicated
financial support, bursaries and scholarships page
Applying to Buckinghamshire New University
UCAS
Most Home students apply to university through
UCAS
(Universities and Colleges Admissions Service). UCAS process all UK university applications and will send your application to your chosen universities, who will consider your academic and personal profile before making you an offer.
If you’re interested in studying our
MSc in Social Work
MSc Nursing
MEng Computer Science
and
MSci Cyber Security
, you will also need to apply through UCAS.
Please
apply directly
to us for part-time study options.
Filling in your UCAS application
You need to ensure you complete all sections of your UCAS application fully. Applications are reviewed on an individual basis, and you will need to provide details of your qualifications (both completed and pending), a personal statement and a current reference to support your application.
There’s lots of useful information on the UCAS website about filling in your UCAS application. You don’t need to complete it all in one go, so make sure you take your time and complete all sections fully, as if there is information missing your application may be rejected.
To apply to BNU, you’ll also need the following information:
Our institution name: Buckinghamshire New University
Our institution number: B94
The UCAS course code for your chosen course
We recommend that you submit your application as soon as possible once you’ve decided what course you are interested in studying. Don’t forget to use your
personal email address rather than your school/college one when making your UCAS application, this will ensure all emails regarding your application and joining BNU get through to you.
Your UCAS personal statement is changing
If you’re applying to start university in
2026 or later
, the way you complete your UCAS personal statement will look a little different compared to previous years.
Instead of writing one long essay, you’ll now answer
three clear questions
why you want to study your chosen subject or course?
how your studies so far have prepared you?
what you’ve done outside the classroom that makes you ready for the course?
You’ll still have up to 4,000 characters in total, but each answer needs to be at least 350 characters long.
This new format is designed to make it easier for you to show your strengths and explain why you’re a great fit for your chosen degree.
If you need any advice on your personal statement, then
get in touch
and we’d be happy to help.

What happens once you've applied to BNU?
We'll check your application
We’ll make sure your form is fully completed and that you meet the entry requirements for your chosen course. If we need any further information to process your application, such as copies of your passport or qualifications, we’ll email you to let you know. If you are an International student, you will also need to provide your UKVI decision letter, original qualification documents, evidence of your Secure English Language Test (e.g. IELTS), Biometric Residence Permits (BRP) and entry clearance visa.
We'll let you know our decision
Once we’ve received all the necessary information, we’ll make a decision on your application. This will be shown on either your UCAS Hub or Wozzard Portal, you can use these services at any time to check how your application is progressing.
If you have applied to multiple universities through UCAS and you’ve heard back from all universities you’ve applied to, you can choose your firm (first) and insurance (second) choices on
UCAS Hub
. The deadline for making these choices will depend on when you submitted your application and received your offers – check out the
UCAS website
to make sure you don’t miss yours.
We aim to reply to your offer as soon as possible but occasionally, due to the volume of applications this may take a little longer.
As soon as we’ve made a decision on your application, your UCAS Hub or Wozzard Portal will be updated, and we will email you.
Attend our Applicant Visit Days
Our Applicant Visit events will help you to get to know us a little better.
At these events you can meet your course leader and our students, view our facilities, and get a taste of what life at BNU is like.
