As someone who introduces hundred+ new editors to Wiki each year (as a teacher), I have one vital (IMHO) QoL change I'd like to see, related to a problem majority of my students have every semester. After creating the account, some still enable the old code/source mode rather than visual and struggle to fix it. For that reason I tell them to follow instructions I wrote here:
, with the goal of giving them both visual and source (source is still useful for some type of editing). The point is, our current menus/flow of actions for new editors is BAD, as it still makes some of them click and semi-lock themselves in the source editing mode. This needs to be revised, and frankly, I strongly suggest not wasting new editor's time giving them a choice of VE vs source. Just give them both (like I do in my instructions), and let them change this later if the settings if anyone cares. Having a significant percentage of new editors lock themselves in old source editing is resulting in a loss of new editors, who are put off by the old system - I am sure of that.
In all honestly, I'd flag the above issue as vital/top importance for addressing ASAP. It might have sneaked under our radar as it's related to newbie experience, but again, I see this every semester, for years, and it's grating.
