trails and greenways in Fort Smith as possible. We want to ensure those corridors are safe and located where they are needed and will be used, and also connect the major destinations within the city. Trails Map Trails & Greenway Master Plan Greg Smith River Trail Greg Smith River Trail is a multi-use trail in west and north Fort Smith between the Arkansas River and Riverfront Drive. It extends approximately 6.3 miles along the Arkansas River. The trail begins at the River Park Events Building and ties into Fort Smith Park. This trail consists of three sections: Section I: This 1.6-mile section is constructed along the Arkansas River, extending from the River Park Events Buildings down to where the former Rice Carden Levee Trail begins. Amenities along the trail include a stone walkway leading to the River for fishing, a pedestrian bridge, pavilion, seating areas, and five statues donated by the Griffin family Section II: This is an approximately 3.2 mile asphalt trail. Section III: The 1.5-mile walking trail extension begins at the end of the Rice Carden Levee Trail and extends past Fort Smith Park, ending at the railroad tracks along Riverfront Drive. Powers Port Canoe Access Intersections Fort Smith Bikeway on Williams Lane Water Trail Chaffee Crossing Trail System This is a joint project with the Fort Chaffee Redevelopment Authority for the construction of an approximate 7.1 mile trail system. The project is broken down into three segments, with FCRA committing up to $500,000 for each segment. Mickle, Wagner, Coleman, Inc. of Fort Smith is serving as the engineer for the project. Segment One added 1.7 miles of multipurpose trail beginning at Wells Lake Road and extending to Roberts Boulevard. Massard Road Trail Massard Road North Trail begins at Jackson Street near Phoenix Avenue and the bikeway on Massard Road and extends south to Zero Street Trail and Massard Road South Trail. This trail contains 1.4 miles of existing paved trail. This trail is at the east end of Airport property and passes by the Fort Smith Dog Park. You can continue south on Massard Road on the extra wide sidewalk on the east side of the road and join the Chad Colley Walking Trail at the southern most end of Massard Road. The Ben Geren Trail also intersects on this section of Massard Road. Take a little side trip to the Janet Huckabee Nature Center and hook up with the Fort Chaffee Walking Trail. It begins off Jenny Lind Road behind Sutherlands and extends northwest along the creek connecting into Phoenix Avenue near Jack’s Skateland. Hours 6:00am to 11:00pm, all days of the week Ronnie Udouj Walking Trail This trail is maintained by the Utilities Department. It is approximately 1.5 miles and there are multiple trail spurs that allow users to shorten the path. A portion of the trail is paved, while the rest is gravel. It features a pedestrian bridge that crosses over the Sunnymede Creek. Ben Geren Trail is a trail in south Fort Smith that begins at Zero Street Trail near Massard Creek. It extends south along Massard Creek intersecting Planters Road Trail and connecting to Landfill Loop, and ends at Massard Road South Trail and Fort Chaffee West Trail. This trail contains 1.8 miles of existing paved trail. This trail is 1.75 miles long. Address Chad Colley Blvd & Massard Road Hours 6:00am to 11:00pm, all days of the week Destinations Ben Geren Park Trail Steep Hill Road Rye Hill Road Intersections Janet Huckabee Nature Center Fort Chaffee West Trail Fort Chaffee West Trail is a proposed trail in southeast Fort Smith that loops through and around the western portion of Fort Chaffee connecting to Zero Street Trail at Fort Smith Boulevard, Fort Chaffee East Trail and Massard Road South Trail. This trail contains 0.9 miles of existing paved trail.
