Hello all, I am an editor from Hebrew Wikipedia. Since we don't write our language with Latin alphabet, we are having difficulties with transliterating Alemannic geographic names. Our main issue is with the prefix
g-
(as in
Gsür
Gspaltenhorn
Gstaad
) - is it pronounces like
/k/
or
/g/
? Does the consonant that comes after the
g-
affects the pronunciation of the
g-
? Are there differences between regional dialects in this case?
And, more generally: are there other major differences between Standard German and Alemannic spelling and pronunciation that we should know about when we tranliterate Alemannic words? Many of us (including me) understand Standard German at some level, but sadly, none of us have any knowledge about Alemannic.

I assume the question primarily refers to place names and surnames?
As for
before consonants, the following usually applies in German-speaking Switzerland: Before voiceless [f], [s], [x], and [ʃ],
is pronounced [k]. In the examples you cited, the pronunciation [k] applies therefore everywhere. However, if
goes back to the preterite participle prefix
ge-
via ellision of the /e/, then it is always pronounced [k]. In the Alemannic region of southwest Germany and Alsace, lenizations can override this rule.
I am also generally of the opinion that the pronunciation of Swiss (and Austrian) place and surnames should be rendered according to the Swiss High German (resp. Austrian) pronunciation rules. There was a major controversy about this in the English-language Wikipedia...
In Swiss High German, /r/ is pronounced in all positions and is never vocalized like in Germany's German, with the dominant pronunciation being [r] and not [ʁ] as in Germany, e.g.

etc. we will have to check with you here what is the right pronunciation - I will add it to our manuals.
I have another important question. Do these rule apply when the names are pronounced in the Standard German language? If the Standard German pronounces the names differently, I would like to mention both pronunciations in the lead.

Yes, the pronunciation rules described above are generally also used in Swiss High German. There are certainly individual differences (some would be closer to the dialect here and there, others would be closer to Germany’s Standard German here and there), but in principle I can answer your question in the affirmative.
