They are going to delete the image in

of the dutch Wikipedia. I am writing you because your are listed as ambassador of your wiki. I have something to say that I think you will find useful and possibly others of your wiki also.
You know it is not easy for the members of a local wiki to be informed about what is going on in the higher levels of the Wikimedia family. This because of the language problem and the high level of fragmentation of places where you can find information.
I am now making a weekly news letter (Wikizine) that attempts to provide the news of the Wikimedia projects. The concept is to list only a very short description of the news an give the relevant url to the subject. I want it to be short, only give the news that is important for all projects. The target audience include the ambassadors. It is for people who are interested in what it going on outside there own wiki. I emphasize on the news that is practical-technical. The information comes form several "news"-pages on several wikis, the mailinglists and IRC. There will be news I can not discover. If you have news found somewhere or from you own wiki please let my know. wikizine AT wikipedia.be
I can only create one version in something that supposed to be English. I count on the readers to inform there local wiki about the news in there own language.
Wikizine is send by use of the mailinglist Announce-l. It is only used for this. So people can subscribe without being swamped by emails like the lists.
I hope that you and others of your wiki will subscribe to Wikizine and give feedback. So that Wikizine can become really a source where Wikimedians can find out what is going on. Greetings,

I don't know what is correct surname of Sani. Letter 'ć' is perfectly fine in Slovene alphabet althought, strictly speaking, it is mainly included in foreign words, as foreign surnames are. Sometimes people change their surnames from endings '-ić' to '-ič'. I mean - it is true that Slovene alphabet does not include 'ć' as a letter, but 'ć' and for example 'đ' (and even for instance German 'ü') are written in Slovene language. The proper Sani's surname is of course that which is written in his identity card. And since Slovene wp has 'č', I guess this is also one strong argument, although the article in Slovene is merely a stub. Some Slovenes of course have stil surnames ending with '-ić', and -'ič' are not only 'slovenized' versions. I hope this helps somehow. Best regards. --

The LocalisationUpdate extension is now enabled for all Wikimedia projects. From now on new localisations that become available in SVN will become available to your project within 24 hours. Your localisations get into SVN from
translatewiki.net

The Wikimedia Foundation has brought together a new team of developers who are dedicated to language support. This team is to support all the languages and consequently it is not realistic to expect that the team members can provide proper support for your language. It is for this reason that we are looking for volunteers who will make up a
language support team
This language support team will be asked to provide us with information about their language. Such information may need to be provided either to us or on a website that we will indicate to you. Another activity will be to test software that will likely have an effect on the running of the MediaWiki software. We are looking for people who clearly identify their ability. Formal knowledge is definitely appreciated.
As much of the activity will be concentrated on
translatewiki.net
, it will be a plus when team members know how to localise at translatewiki.net.

Betawiki: better support for your language in MediaWiki

Dear community. I am writing to you to promote a special wiki called
Betawiki
. This wiki facilitates the localisation (l10n) of the MediaWiki interface. You may have changed many messages here to use your language in the interface, but if you would log in to for example the Japanese language Wiktionary, you would not be able to use the interface as well translated as here. In fact, of 1,736 messages in the core of MediaWiki, 5.99% of the messages have been translated. Betawiki also supports the translation of messages for 126 extensions, with 2,174 messages. Many of them are used in WMF projects and they are vital for understanding the wiki. Currently 0.00% of the WMF extension messages have been translated. Translators for over 90 languages contribute their work to MediaWiki this way every month.

I am Yosri from Malay Wikipedia. Recently I was informed by certain parties that MS Wiki need to delete any images tagged as Non-Commercial under
Foundation Licensing policy
. After I have done some studies, I realised that Wikipedia Foundations is moving towards allowing commercialises all images, as such they are acting on behalf of commercial company to require all images loaded with tagging

in all Wiki Project to be removed, including those loaded in local Wiki. You are only allowed to licenses your images under "free content", which specifically allows commercial reuse, example

I'm still not convinced. Being published in a book is not a requirement for copyright to exist, nor is existence in Wikipedia(s) an argument against it. The point is that if a list is assembled according to some editorial criteria (rather than simple fact, like the sales), then it's a creative work. However, this particular list is a mix of editorial criteria and a public poll, so it's probably not so problematic. It would be nice of you to mention the issue on :fr and ask people more knowledgeable in French law to comment, though.
The appropriate Slovene title would be something like
Sto knjig stoletja
. The individual book titles would also need to be translated (where a book's Slovene translation exists), you can find a few through interwikis (like Camus'
Tujec
), other titles are searchable using the
online Slovene library catalog service
(select "National library" and "Original title" in the advanced search's drop-down menus). We use original titles where a translation doesn't exist. —

has started. Sitenotices have appeared for sure in USA, Spain, Austria, Russian Federation and Ukraine, and Italy will be join very soon with a massive national campaign.
As a member of the academic committee I did my best to reduce the gap between countries both in the composition of the
juries
and now in the outreach. I did inform many platforms (enwiki, eswiki, frwiki) during the preparation of the event, now I am informing all national institutions, associations and federations of science and technology I can contact, especially those located in countries without national juries and I am posting notes on LinkedIn groups everyday... and so on. That's why I am here.
We
prepared banners
for many countries but on
meta
they say it is not wise to use them all, so if you want to use the style and do one here on your wiki just for few days, just inform us. In the end, the banner is not country-specific.
Otherwise, if you have social media and you want to inform your friends and colleagues, the twitter hashtags are #WSC2017, #WikiScience2017, #WikiScience

Sometimes users propose articles they miss in their language edition, sometimes they suggest to translate topics they want to be known around the world.
