Working for Mako News
Mako News is run by a team of students in the following positions:
Editor-in-Chief
oversees the publication process of news content that appears in The Current student newspaper and on the Mako News web site.
Art Director
oversees the layout and design of The Current and visual content distributed on the Mako News web site.
Reporters
gather information by conducting research and interacting with the public, write stories.
Designers
contribute to the design of The Current and Mako News productions.
Photographers
capture pictures to be presented with print and digital news stories.
Working for Mako TV
Mako TV is run by a
General Manager
, who is in charge of organizing the development of the content aired, setting the tone at the station and maintaining the identity of Mako TV.
Other positions with Mako TV include:
Producers
responsible for individual packages.
Editors
edit footage to deliver a final product.
Reporters
work in front of the camera as on-air personalities, reporting on-site or from the desk to conduct interviews and present stories.
Videographers
work with audio and video tools to capture footage on-site or in the newsroom.
Working for Mako Radio
Mako Radio is run by a
Station Manager
, who oversees its day-to-day operations and staff. This individual is in charge of working with staff to develop innovative shows that reflect the student body’s interests and the network’s vision and identity for Mako Radio.
Other positions with Mako Radio include:
Production Engineers
edit audio and operate and maintain audio equipment in the studio.
Program Directors
oversee the scheduling and development of shows, as well as managing podcasts.
Music Directors
manage charts from musicians and ensure the station abides by FCC regulations and are aware of Mako Radio’s identity.
DJ Event Coordinators
manage the back-end business for DJ events.

Q1. How can you work for Mako Media Network?
Currently enrolled Nova Southeastern University students should speak to the director and assistant director of Mako Media Network to learn more about job opportunities.
Q2. How many hours can MMN personnel work?
Mako Media staff can work up to 20 hours per week. Student leadership can work up to 20 hours if they qualify for Federal Work Study.
Q3. When can MMN personnel clock in their hours?
Mako Media staff can clock in their hours during the mandatory Monday staff meeting in the newsroom (in U.C. 328) from 12-1 p.m., their respective staff meetings (Tuesdays from 12:30-1:30 p.m. for Mako News, Wednesdays from 12-1 p.m. for Mako Radio and Thursdays from 12:30-1:30 p.m. for Mako TV) and while they are producing work related to their job positions. Mako Media staff should clock out when they are on lunch break, leaving for class and clocking out for the day.
Q4. How do MMN personnel clock in their hours?
Mako Media staff will clock in and out from worksite computers at
sharktime.
Timesheet changes should be communicated with the director and assistant director of Mako Media Network.
Work Ethics and Guidelines
