Overview

Silent Glory (also known as Dawn, Deep Sea 1950, Dark Night Deep Sea) is a 2025 Chinese mainland historical spy drama television series directed by Yang Yazhou, starring Yu Hewei, Wu Yue, Wei Chen, Zeng Li, Yu Ailei, and Long Ni. The series is based on the history of the Chinese Communist Party's covert operations in Taiwan, drawing from the real-life experiences of Wu Shi, Zhu Feng, Chen Baocang, Nie Xi, and others. It has a Douban rating of 8.0.

Synopsis

In August 1949, Wu Shi (played by Yu Hewei), who was originally preparing to welcome liberation in Fuzhou, is suddenly appointed by Chiang Kai-shek as the Deputy Chief of the National Defense Ministry of the Nationalist Government. To obtain more intelligence, Wu Shi resolutely travels to Taiwan to assume his post, following the instructions of the Party organization.

Unlike traditional spy dramas, this historically adapted series precisely tells the story of the failure of underground operatives. Centered on the four real historical figures—Wu Shi, Zhu Feng, Chen Baocang, and Nie Xi—the series depicts the covert struggle of the Chinese Communist Party in Taiwan between 1949 and 1950.

When the survivors stood under the eight pine trees and fired their guns into the air, the names that were never recorded in official history finally reverberated through the echo chamber of time.

Reception and Broadcast

Silent Glory aired on CCTV-8, tying for first place on the ratings chart with an average viewership rating of 2.61% per episode. It is also the highest-rated series on Douban among CCTV's 2025 lineup.

With a Douban rating of 8.0, it ranks among the top ten highest-rated Chinese-language series of 2025. Its cinematic quality is considered the pinnacle within the Republican-era spy genre, with actors delivering steady and appropriate performances.

Some reviews note that the reason it doesn't achieve a perfect score is due to the somewhat unrealistic portrayal of adversaries, but overall, it is recognized as a high-quality spy drama masterpiece.
