Plot

On October 10, 1942, the Wang Jingwei regime held a grand National Government celebration in Nanjing. However, a series of assassinations targeting Japanese military officials and Wang regime officials left the head of the Special Operations Department, Wang Tianxiang (Wang Zhiwen), deeply unsettled. The head of the Japanese intelligence agency, Takeda (Huang Xiaoming), intercepted a secret message confirming that the communist underground operative codenamed "Old Ghost" was among the five participants of a secret meeting.

The five suspects are taken to a secluded estate named Qiu Manor. They are: Gu Xiaomeng (Zhou Xun), head of the Code Decryption Section of the Puppet Army's Bandit Suppression Headquarters; Li Ningyu (Li Bingbing), communications officer of the Headquarters; Jin Shenghuo (Ying Da), director of the Headquarters; Bai Xiaonian (Su Youpeng), aide-de-camp to the Commander-in-Chief of the Puppet Army; and Wu Zhiguo (Zhang Hanyu), Chief of Staff of the Puppet Army.

Inside Qiu Manor, Takeda and Wang Tianxiang subject the five to brutal interrogations and psychological warfare. Anyone could be "Old Ghost," and everyone harbors hidden secrets.
