Wudang Mountains
Synopsis
Mount Wudang is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a sacred place of Chinese Taoism, located in Shiyan, Hubei. Renowned for Wudang martial arts and its ancient architectural complex, it preserves well historical sites such as the Golden Summit, Nanyan Palace, and Zixiao Palace, and is the birthplace of Tai Chi.
Overview
Wudang Mountain is located in Danjiangkou City, Shiyan City, Hubei Province. It is one of China's famous Taoist mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a national 5A-level tourist attraction. The Ancient Building Complex in Wudang Mountain was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1994.
Wudang Mountain is the birthplace of Wudang martial arts and an important place for the inheritance of Tai Chi. Emperor Yongle of the Ming Dynasty ordered large-scale construction of palaces and temples on Wudang Mountain, making it a royal Taoist sanctuary.
