Overview
Detian Waterfall is located in Detian Village, Shuolong Town, Daxin County, Chongzuo City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China. It connects with the adjacent Ban Gioc Waterfall in Vietnam, together forming the largest transnational waterfall group in Asia and the fourth largest in the world. The waterfall straddles the border between China and Vietnam, cascading down in three tiers with a total width of about 200 meters, a depth of over 60 meters, and a drop of more than 70 meters. Its average annual water flow is approximately three times that of Huangguoshu Waterfall in Guizhou. Its majestic momentum and ever-changing appearance, integrated with the surrounding karst landscape, pastoral scenery, and borderland charm, create a magnificent natural panorama. As a National 5A-level Tourist Attraction, Detian Waterfall is not only a shining pearl on the Sino-Vietnamese border but also a significant filming location for productions like "The Journey of Flower," attracting countless domestic and international visitors.
History
The Detian Waterfall area has a long history and has been a strategic location in China's southwestern frontier since ancient times. The Guichun River, on which the waterfall is located, serves as the border river between China and Vietnam, making the waterfall a natural boundary. Over the long course of history, it has witnessed changes along the border and the blending of ethnic cultures. Before the 1990s, Detian Waterfall remained largely "unknown to the world," existing primarily in its natural state. With the normalization of Sino-Vietnamese relations and the promotion of tourism development in border areas, the grandeur of Detian Waterfall gradually became known to the outside world. Systematic tourism planning and construction began in the late 1990s, rapidly boosting its fame. In 2005, in the "Most Beautiful Places in China" selection activity organized by Chinese National Geography magazine, Detian Waterfall was voted one of the "Six Most Beautiful Waterfalls in China." Since then, its reputation has spread far and wide, making it a landmark tourist destination in Guangxi and even southwestern China.
Main Attractions
The Detian Waterfall Scenic Area is not only centered around the waterfall but is also a comprehensive tourist zone integrating natural scenery, cultural elements, and borderland characteristics.
- Detian Transnational Waterfall: This is the soul of the scenic area. Visitors can take a bamboo raft to experience up close the震撼 of the cascading water and mist. During the high-water season (June to November each year), the water volume is abundant, and the waterfall roars like ten thousand galloping horses; during the dry season, it appears more delicate and graceful with distinct layers. On the river surface, China's Detian Waterfall and Vietnam's Ban Gioc Waterfall stand side by side, forming a remarkable spectacle.
- Border Marker No. 836: Located above the waterfall, this boundary marker was erected during the Qing Dynasty, inscribed with characters such as "China Guangxi Boundary." It is a witness to history and a must-visit photo spot for tourists, offering the unique experience of "straddling two countries with one step."
- Detian Temple: Situated near the waterfall, this is a temple with local characteristics, adding a touch of cultural atmosphere to the scenic area.
- Viewing the Waterfall from Heights: The scenic area features multiple viewing platforms and several levels of hiking trails. Ascending the steps allows visitors to overlook the panoramic view of the waterfall and the landscape of the Sino-Vietnamese border from different heights and angles, offering extremely broad vistas.
- Sino-Vietnamese Cross-border Street: In designated areas, visitors can briefly experience Vietnamese风情, purchase some Vietnamese specialties, and感受 the unique border culture.
- Magic Carpet and Slide: In recent years, the scenic area has introduced experience projects such as the "Flying Magic Carpet" (an uphill conveyor belt) and a high-altitude glass slide, allowing visitors to enjoy the mountain scenery and overlook the waterfall in a more relaxed and thrilling way.
